I would also love to import budwood from USA, maybe via UK or France: all those striking found roses and Bermuda's....! Actually we have (in the rose nursery I'm working for as a advisor) a pretty good list of Clark's creatures, and we are triyin' to enlarge the collection. Now, we have available for trade the following: 'Flyng Colours' - 'Jessie Clark' - 'Nancy Hayward' - 'Pennant'- 'Squatter's Dream' .... and few others not yet introduced for the commerce, like 'Tonner's Fancy'. I'm happy to add to the list my 'Alister Clark' and Lorraine Lee. Luxrosa, I was really attracted by 'Borderer', and foud 'Alister Clark', who seem to be quite similar to 'Borderer' both in growth habit and flower shape. I'm goin' to plant my 'Susan Louise' tomorrow(she's already showing a juicy bud, happy little band...), and I'm really excited to see how she will perform this year. :o) Thank you Ann and thank you Odissey for informations :o)! I've read so many entusiastic comments about this Rose, especially about her reflowering, vigor and beauty of the bush, that, even if pictures of it are sometimes disappointing, showing a "dull" flower shape and colour, I'm really curious and hopeful! Sherry, I wish I could say this rose's appearance was due to masterful activity on my part, but I can't. In fact, I have never pruned this rose (didn't even go near it this spring, except to throw some alfalfa pellets its way). I did cut out the dead brush in the interior a few years ago and expect I will need to do that again in a few years. The support consists of two bands of wire that run from fence post to fence post, one at about 3 1/2 feet above the ground, the other at about 5 feet above the ground, to hold the rose, as a whole, against the fence. In the earlier years, I just had a loop of wire around the main canes fastened to the fence at one point (so, I guess the "training" could be that I just let the main canes grow up and supported them), but that broke during a storm, leaving the rose laying on the ground, so I then set up these bands of wire. Yes, the section to the right is an arching cane blooming to the ground. The clone that it is may have something to do with its obliging nature. Vintage describes their Alister Stella Gray as a less-vigorous, "more demure" version than others. Debbie

I have found in my yard that ASG stays at shrub form, mine is now about 5-6' tall in less than optimum location with minimum water. It can withstand drought, but doesn't grow past shrub height. Mine is against a fence, facing south, and we have sever water restrictions. In a better location, ASG would probably climb. Mine is almost continuously in bloom from about late May til at least November. It does start blooming a little later than other roses for me. In the same location, Cl Aime Vibert has taken off over the hills and away, and Celine Forestier barely grows at all. So CF probably needs more water and some protection from sun and ASG does not need to be given your best real estate, especially if you wnat to keep him as a bush.
