This is the reason why I get so addicted. When my plants bloom good and I am enjoying every moments outside, even when I get many mosquitoes bites. My camera is working overtime during summer months.

I resize my pictures down to 15% of it's original, so my Photobucket account holds more.

You have the best plants!!!
I lost my big ones in the winter,have just small size now. They will grow into what you have someday. Mine are just starting to get some leaves. Ohio is not the best place to grow these plants for flowers.

Being one of the "folks in cold zones" I thought I'd chime in as well. I agree that there's no reason to prune your roses so low, particularly if they're already healthy and growing. I don't think a hard prune is going to make them any likelier to regrow those blackspotted leaves, except in the sense you'd force it to grow entirely new canes to replace the canes you cut off. You could do an "aggressive deadhead" type of prune, where you cut down wayward branches to reshape and tidy the plant, like you do with most Austins, but don't take off more than 1/3 of the branch unless you have to. The exception for those of us in cold zones is to make sure you check mature canes and near the base of the plant for undetected winter kill that will work its way up or down the plant if not pruned off. That's usually the advantage of pruning in the spring, so you can notice those nasty purple or brownish splotches spreading on branches that are doomed regardless. If the lower branches are between leaves from BS, that might offer you the same (dubious) benefit of being able to find the canker. Seeing the beneficial results it gives my plants makes me desire to make more and more of it! I collect as much compostable goods as I can and then seek even more! I'm like a crack addict chasing the dragon to get a higher fix. I've gotten real *bad*... I dig through the garbages at work and take home all the banana peels, apple cores, orange peels, etc... I cant get enough! Its just so much fun and so enjoyable to me- even more so to my plants. I love showing people who dont understand compost side by side comparisons of plants grown with compost and those in normal soil. It really gives them a visual! I'm slowly infecting my family, friends and coworkers with the "disease"! I'm getting a lot of their food scraps and now they are starting to feel bad for throwing them away.

He is sooo smart...and just so humble...there isn't a spoiled bone in his little body...I was showing him pictures of my kids and dogs on the I-phone and he just had a ball looking at them...We served him up a special meal his Mom had ordered...who knew chicken nuggets could be sooo exciting??? His Mom was just the best and so appreciative of us making over him so...I fixed him up a little ditty bag of fruit and goodies when he left and you woulda thought I had given him a new toy...His Mom and I chatted lots by email yesterday and she has bracelets with his website on them so I'll be wearing it soon... He beats any celebrity I've ever met...I'll be praying for good health for this little guy for the rest of my life... Lisa...he's had his surgeries in Baltimore, The Shriners Hospital and now he's seeing a world reknown Orthopedic guy in Palm Beach...I sure hope we're cutting them a break on flights but I don't know...

jpw, it may be cynical, but it's realistic. I bet I've seen every one of these excuses on craigslist or in newspaper ads or on signs in the neighborhood; people who work in rescue probably do get cynical & burned-out, much as social workers get cynical & burned-out, & for the same reasons. I my own self once personally spoke with a woman who said she was going to start her own rescue, & she even had someone lined up to provide a maternity home for pregnant dogs & cat s, because....she didn't believe in abortion. & as for: "Press 10 if your relative has died and you don't want to care for their elderly dog because it doesn't fit your lifestyle."... I once was in line at the grocery store when a woman's cell phone rang & she blithely rattled off something like the following: "Human Services? yes, this is Mrs. Whatsis. I was calling to get my mother enrolled in Medicaid. She has to be enrolled in Medicaid before the nursing home will take her. We sold her house & she's staying with us at present, but we just can't give her the time she needs." then, with a touch of pride, "We have *five* children." oh. so neither you (fit-looking woman probably in her forties) nor any of your *five* children can take care of Granny?.. The only thing that gave me comfort was that her equally fit-looking daughter, who looked to be in her late teens, was standing by her side, absorbing every word, maybe storing it for future use when this woman got old.

I lost about 30 pots (big and small), 5 of them were 10+ years. It was so sad....also most of my hard work on grafted scions were gone. Now I have so many caudexes without grafted parts.

I always love viewing photo's of your Adeniums. They are always so fully loaded with blooms and your choice of pots compliments them so well.
I can only hope to have such a collection as yours one day.
I love all of them, but I have always been particularly fond of your Phatuma.
It is so pure and delicate all at the same time. Sorry for my rambling.
