Is this my first bud?

Hi folks, I'm hoping this is a bud, my first one ever! I started giving them tomato feed two weeks ago and I'm hoping this is a flower bud. What do you think folks

Congratulations, theda. Getting a catt to bloom for the first time is very exciting. It's a wonder watching the buds develop and fatten the sheath. You're doing great. The thing about catt sheaths is *don't slit* them except in exceptional circumstances. They buds will force the sheath open on their own. Slit sheaths are likely to get moisture inside, which can rot the buds, and that's just heartbreaking. Enjoy your success!

Bud blasting happens all the time when you buy a plant in bud (especially if it was happy in a greenhouse) and put it in a foreign environment. Low humidity, cold or hot dry drafts. And if it's in the kitchen, there is the potential of trace amounts of natural gas from the stove. All these things can quickly cause the buds to "blast" or shrivel and die. Better to buy a plant in full flower. Don't blame Taida or any other commercial outfit. The plant was growing in ideal conditions. Put in a window sill or otherwise can affect the condidition of the forming buds.

Its starting very slowely. A bud here and there scattered around but not enought to be truely noticeable. I think if we don't get some deluge of a rain storm to ruin the blooms then this will be the best spring flush in my yard since I started growing roses afew years ago.

Kuzariprincess - I just LOVE L.D. Braithwaite. What sumptuous roses!! Divine!! My 4 year old plant is about 2 feet X 2 feet and will grow taller. There are lots of buds on it! Souvenir de la Malmaison overwintered in your garden? Great!! I bought it this year. Really weird that it survived and your Morden didn't! Shazam - 50 buds!!! Wow!! I bought Bonica my first year growing roses and it died overwinter. I'm reluctant to try it again. Although it SHOULD survive winter here. Maybe I just didn't know what I was doing that first year. Janet - I wish we were at the "just enjoy it stage." We still have SOOOO much work to do. Oh well, it's fun! Well - BLANC DOUBLE de COUBERT won my first rose race!!!! Followed the next day by J.P. Connell!!! They both have around 50 buds each. Roses rule!! Carol

It certainly looks like this is IT. You deserve success after all the waiting and hoping, well done. Is this a seedling or graft? I'm sure you will soon be posting pics of blooms!

being in Northern Europe I've been trying to figure out how to make the A.s bloom here in my destination ...

Just like you untill recently, but now you seem to have made it ...
:-)

There's the tomato feed, of course, but I also wonder where do you grow your plant(s).
- In a window , greenhouse or what ?

- Also, have you had sunny weather the days / weeks before you discovered the buds ?

Oh, and I hope your buds are still doing great !
