replacing trees from ice storm

So the maple tree that was in front of my house and provided shade was ruined by the ice storm we got in early Feb. My property is fairly new and I lost a lot of smaller trees around the yard as well, but got a plan for replacing those. I need something to put in the maple's place. I know fast growing trees are usually not very strong but I would like something not terribly slow growing. I'm thinking some type of Ash, but this is all fairly new to me. I DON'T want an oak even though I know it may the best choice because I don't want to have to deal with acorns dropping in the future. I also have a privacy fenced back yard I'm looking to put two tress in, likely a sourwood because it seems to be the size I'm looking for but not sure if I should do two of those or pick another similiar size tree? Any suggestions are appreciated.
