I don't know if this suits what you're asking for, but I'm looking into "Lavender Lassie"...a climber, not sure if it is Old Musk or hybrid musk, and it's not light, but not shockingly pink either. The HMF site says it does fine with shade.

Cornelia once had an ARS rating of 9.0 -- which meant it was considered cast iron. It is a sort of coral pink. The buds darker than the opened flower (semi-double). I have it in semi-shade and it is just fine. It reblooms in the fall and the fall crop is considered superior to the spring one.

Kathleen. This very beautiful fragrant single (like apple blossoms) I have never grown myself. But have admired it greatly. It is so beautiful that some consider it a rose to have if you could have only one.

Even with musk roses I think you will have more blooms and more rebloom in a sunnier location. They must have some sun to do well.

Don't forget Kathleen Harrop, a fragrant pink bourbon. It will do ok in a north exposure, I believe.

Michael: Sorry to say, Felicity is too tender for use in Chicago. Must you have a hybrid musk? The Knock Out roses actually take less sun than hybrid musks. I don't know how tall you want that hedge, but Blushing Knock Out will go about 3 to 3 1/2 ft tall in 4-6 hours of light. Pink Double Knock Out might be nice too, if you can find them. If your heart's set on a hybrid musk, Ballerina is just about the best of them here in Chicago, I'd say, but it gets to be 5 ft tall.

You're right, mysteryrose. I've gone about this wrong; once I researched hybrid musks, I see they're too big for this spot (where I have Blushing KO as part of the hedge. I'll start a new thread with more appropriate criteria. I'm busy trying to find a place for some of those HM's mentioned here, though, since they are so appealing!
