Comments (2)Could have a lot of carbon build up. I think i would first remove the head and check for that. You will have to remove the head anyway if it's a valve problem....See Moreweak reverse in 30 yr old Ariens sno blower
Comments (4)it is side play, end play is good. I just pulled the gear box and impeller out of the housing. The impeller shaft snapped at the roll pin closest to to the gear box. that may account for the sideplay in the bearing. So now I have a balky carb on another 24 " Ariens of unknown vintage that works fine otherwise. I think a needle and seat will fix that. It has a single belt setup with a dog clutch to engage the blower. It doesnt look like a straight swap. I guess I'm gonna be hunting for Ariens parts....See Morehow old is my lastest dump find Ariens snow blower
Comments (8)The town pays big bucks to haul rubbish to a transfer station. Anything that can be recycled helps the cause. I am selective now, I go for Ariens or Toros. The older the better. From hanging out here for awhile, I learned the trick about the main jet on the Tecumseh carbs. The build quality on the old stuff is so much ruggeder than the stuff I see at the big stores. this old beast was either well cared for or very seldom used. Every bushing is good. It has a flat tire, but I have a good set from the Bolens that I grabbed for its factory short block HM70 last winter....See MoreTecumseh and Briggs & Stratton engines
Comments (12)Remember: Check oil on a clean wiped dip-stick! If you just pull it out to check it and don't wipe it and dip it again and pull it out, you'll be seeing the oil that was splashed on it during the previous operation of the engine! Especially if an engine that gets run a lot. As for the plastic gears--i don't worry about that kind of stuff--i figger the engineers that designed the plastic gears were much better educated than me, so they did sell a lot of those engines! An, with proper care, Tecumseh engines will last as long as B&S! A guy gave me a used Tecumseh, 10 h.p. engine, Industrial model, for my older Snapper rider. I put it on and it runs great. Been on it 4 years now, and no problems. I bought a Sears tractor, $25, with a cracked frame, put the B&S engine on my big Snapper Hi-vac rider, and it seems very happy there! Neighbor gave me his tractor--blew the engine on it, i installed a used engine-runs and drives! Do i worry about plastic cam gears?? No--no worry!...See More- 15 years ago
