Just some pictures taken today. I had to take a day off from work to enjoy my garden before thrips, JBs, heat and other thing to which we pay tax.

Actually, it wasn't long enough. I can't possibly think of a better reason to stay home than to enjoy your gorgeous garden. I can't even imagine the time it takes to keep it looking so perfect. But well worth the effort, I would say.

The Green House is very simple to build, if you have some simple construction knowledge and tools. I will give you some basic ideas on how I did it. First of all, I build two. One with PVC pipe and the other one with Wire Cattle Panels. The PVC Pipe one goes like this. It is 12 by 18. It can be larger, next year plans are in the work for a 12 by 40+. I experience alot of wind, so I made it stronger than needed. First I made a 12 x 18 box out of 1 x 6. Then I dug 4 holes in the corners for a 2.5 foot 4 x 4 post. Then screwed the box to the posts. Then cut 1.5 inch PVC pipe cut 6 inches long every 4 feet on each side. Next take a 1 inch pvc pipe that is 20 feet long and bend it into a hoop. I stress buying 20 foot lengths. I tried to glue 2 tens together and it was just a pain. Two people are nice, but one person can do it. Drill two holes through the pipe and 1.5 inch pipe and attach the hoops to the box with long screws. Optional part, I ran a 3/4 inch pipe down the middle and bolted it to the hoops. It made it very rigid. On the ends is the tricky part. They can be done many ways. I framed up a couple rectangles and mounted some old storm windows that I picked up for free. Then made the door out of a scrap piece of chipboard. Prior to attaching the doors and window, the plastic needs to go one. I used a 6 mil piece that was 20 by 25. It was not fancy greenhouse plastic, just the stuff in a hardware store. 6 mil is the best, I wouldn't go for 4 mil, waste of time. I attached one side of the plastic to the outside of the box with staples. Then sandwiched it on to the side of the box with a 1 by 4. The boards ran the whole length of the building. Pull the plastic over the hoops and pull it tight too, then sandwiched it. Then pull the ends around and wrap them through the window rectangles and sandwiched the windows on and put 1x4 sandwiched on the bottom. I attached two short ropes over the outside of the plastic and attached to the sides of the box, this stopped the "Balloon Affect". Watch the temps, it can get very hot in the sun. One day it was 45 outside and windy. It was 90 plus at 10:00 in the morning. If the plastic rips, fix it with clear duct tape or clear packing tape. Attach it to both sides, if you can. I had a rip in a 45 mile wind storm. I was able to tape it back togther and it held great! The smaller one is the same process. Made a box, set posts, bend cattle panels over, attach to the box (on the inside), put black pipe insulation over the ends of the panels to avoid ripping the plastic, cover with plastic, sandwich the sides, finish the ends and enjoy. A high tunnel can be made very easily. Google "High Tunnel" and you will find out some really good info. These two little building have survived alot. Two tornadoes, 4 hailstorms, 2 weeks fo 30+ mph wind, 5 inches of rain (in 1.5 hours), 50-65 mph winds. I think they are the greatest things ever!

Would if affect the photos that I've already posted at GJ if the image size changed (if that's even possible)? Your gardens are beautiful. I only hope as mine matures and I learn more about gardening I can accomplish what you have. I want to become a Master Gardener and was going to start classes but told a friend I would wait for her to retire next year so we can do it together. What else is planted with the hostas? I have an area under my trees that I want to have a shade garden and so far just have some ferns and a gardenia. What is the last flower, the purple spikey one? Love it. Did you have to train or tie the clematis to climb up the gardeners pole or does it do it by itself. Enjoy!

It is indeed a cochleanthes, Lip Blush - primary cross (amazonica 'White Face' HCC/AOS x candida 'Cole' CBM/AOS)..Love it as it is my very first orchid...My husband gave it to me on Valentine's day in , boy, 2002...I think 2002. We were dating back then :) The first one. I think it is Blc. Volcano Blue. Lynne, fourth picture. I bought it in Home Depot as a rhizome of Hedychium densiflorum, but I do not think it is densiflorum. Lovely ginger, with the fragrance of honeysuckle, citrus, and something else... Evelyn, that is great that you have lotus babies...I have a lot more seeds...I am thinking of making a bog garden just for lotus. Felix, thank you! I believe tropical water lilies should survive here no problem. I bought mine from a friend who lives in Riverview - he has grown his outside for years. Please don't apologize for the beautiful pictures, I could look at your roses for pages. Your roses are great but I really like your beds with no edging material. Very neat and tidy and no edging to distract the eye.

Wow ... unbelievable! Could you also post the name of the peach/orange colored rose in the 5th photo?

My eyes particular caught on your white irises...the white is so substantial. Mine look rather translucent.

I love the roses in the 3rd from the bottom. Mmmmmm.

Would you happen to have a pic of The Mayflower that you could post? My Mayflower has a slim growth habit, as I recall yours was large and abundant with bloom.

Like everyone else has said, gorgeous. Imagine if everyone's yards looked like yours.

I'd love it if you could post some names, there's some major enabling material here. Is that your famous Deuil de Dr. Reynaud to the right of the arbor in the 3rd pic? You enabled in me on that one and mine is just starting it's first flush. I think I see your ginormous Lady Hillingdon (another recommendation) behind that pillar :)

I'll add my admiration for your beautiful garden. It is truly lovely! I, for one, wish more folks would post pictures. It's one thing to imagine someone's garden from a written post, but the actual pictures really are worth a thousand words. I'd love to know the name of the pink rose with the little flowers in the second picture. I've only seen a picture of Lavender Lassie once...is that it?

You have some nice roses. The irises are quite showy as well. But, do I see a tree peony tucked in between the blue and the two-toned irises? If so, how many of those lovelies do you have? Just curious.

Thanks, Olga. I use you and Harry as a guide to what grows well in our area. Your Excellenze von Schub makes me a little nervous. I have one that is about 4 years old and it is 1/2 the size of your. Hopefully, it won't catch up or everyone else will have to run for cover. Keep the pics coming, please!

Well, dang it! I'm in deep trouble if my Felicitie gets that big.

I call those days off mental health days. I'm taking next week off to do the dame thing, enjoy my garden and get the beds tamed.
