Spinosissima Double White

I lost my spinosissma Double White this winter to deers. The completely uprooted it and by the time I discovered it,it was too late. It was young plant so no suckers left behind. I really liked it. My plant came from Vintage. Vintage is still listed like the only US sourse for this rose but Vintage has it "custom root" this year.

If anybody can share with me a sucker of this rose, I would be very grateful. I can send cuttings of my roses in exchange.

Olga, my plant is still relatively small (just planted out last year), but growing well and blooming right now. I got it from Vintage. If you aren't able to find some suckers, hopefully mine will have suckered by this fall and I can take some up if you need.

I have it and can send you a sucker. Ours was not bought,
it was 'found' at a very old cemetery in NH. It is very double and purest white. If you want it, I will dig it up and send it on to you. Just let me know!

I will answer too. Altaica was not healthy here too. For me my favorites are: Doorenbos selection -gorgeous color, healthy Mary Queen of Scotts - healthy, love it, very fragrant Have high hopes for these two: Spinosissima Double white - wonderful fragrance, just one year in my garden, so far healthy Double Yellow - surprisingly so far healthy too, but also only one year old. Time will show. Supposed to have foetida genes, so keep my fingers crossed. Olga

Assistance with Pimpinellifoliae roses needed

I saw multiple with the pimpinellifolia foliage (and linseed oil fragrance) at Cliff Orent's Eurodesert, but I don't know what all of them were, since I was wandering all over the gardens, looking and sniffing, but didn't write down the names of every rose I saw. I really liked the linseed oil smell. He had some of his seedlings with that fragrance, and there was a particularly beautiful one, with pure white flowers as I recall. So you might try contacting Cliff Orent to see what he has. I don't know if he reads this forum.

We don't enjoy much fall color here, and roses supply some of the best of it. R. hugonis is very good, and some of the would-be-evergreen roses turn a near-black polished color that's decidedly handsome. I bet the Rugosas do well for you, and some of them are brilliant in autumn. We can't grow them.

Ron, we probably got our Double Whites about the same time. I bought several spinosissimas last year from Vintage, this was one of them. I would not expect suckers this fall. Let it grow :)
Celeste, thank you. I would like to have sucker from your rose. Is it fragrant? The main thing that attracted me to Double White was description of its fragrance. Don't remember now where I read about it, but it was compared to violettes, I think.
