Fall colours

The foliage of Betty Bland four days ago, the colours are even better today but it's too windy to go outside. I'm sorry the photo isn't good.

Lovely fall color! Not many of my roses will change color. Well, except to have black spots!

I'm stuffed with schnitzel and rice and tomato salad, but shrimp or lobster in garlic butter is great anytime! lol true, Denis it does look like garlic butter..great description. Beverly and Denis and Don, thank you for looking...I am amazed at how intact each leaf is..just a week ago it still had all its colour. June Spirit is just starting to take on some gold...I wonder if she will shine like this?

It's time I added a few shots from around the yard. First off a typical fall shot, with the obligatory spider and 'Empress Wu' in the background. And here's the empress herself.... 'Abiqua Drinking Gourd' is looking like a mushroom of sorts this time of year... Yet, there are a couple of examples around the yard that look just fine, such as this 'Monashee Blue Cup'. And a couple of 'Remember Me' are still in full glory. Just to show how varied things can be in a patch, ehre's a shot taken in my main patch of 'Golden Tiara' where you can see the earliest pods opening up already, yet there are still some flowers from a neighbouring shoot. I have no beautiful trees or bushes blooming now but I will cheat this one through by mentioning that the Mondo Grass is perennial. This was my first time buying one and I paired it with petunias and silver Beacon. Then later I added some pansies. They are all thriving very well after planting 5 weeks ago.

We don't enjoy much fall color here, and roses supply some of the best of it. R. hugonis is very good, and some of the would-be-evergreen roses turn a near-black polished color that's decidedly handsome. I bet the Rugosas do well for you, and some of them are brilliant in autumn. We can't grow them.

The rugosa Moje Hammarberg in front of the spinosissima Double White is probably the best fall color combo in my garden now.

That is truly lovely, Marianne. The second picture is so dramatic. This is one of the beauties of a four-season climate, although I'm afraid my thin California blood wouldn't be able to handle the subsequent winter freezing temps.
