Homelite xl parts

I have a Homolite XL automatic serial # 3036534 (blue not Red)it has been a good machine. rubust and has run well. It started to smoke badley and then shuts down. The smoke is coming from the air cooling fins. a local small engine mechanic said he will work on it if I get the parts. He beleives my problem is that the automatic oiler has a leak his guess is a blown diaphram or pump what ever it is that delivers the oil from the resevior to the chain. And I alos need a fuel line which diescintergrated where i tenters the casing holding the carberator. I was able to down load a parts list however there is no refernce to any form of rebuild kit for the automaic oiler. I have been able to find fuel line on line. Can any one provide any guidence here, I relly would like to fix the unit the new ones althogh maybe safer don't seem to have the bang for the buck. If there is no way to fix the auto oiler Is there any way to change it to a manual oiler.

Would the oil leaking from the pump, or whatever holds the oil, cause the smoke?
Sounds like you'll get the full treatment that is reserved for the uninitiated!

There is no oil near the fins except the copper lines for the manual oiler. Check for a crack or a split line or a loose fitting.
I have replacement parts for most old XL (big & small) HOMELITES.

I also have an old Homelite chainsaw. it's a XL Textron. It's red so that narrows it down for me a bit according to a previous post. From the "70's". Still made good stuff back then. It's got a sixteen inch bar and automatic oiling but that's the problem, it's not getting oil to the chain. Does anyone have a model number for this. The tag with the model number is unreadable so I can't even begin to find a manual. Is there a pump that squirts out the oil? It's too bad because the motor runs good. People tell me it is a good one. I also need new gaskets for the two fill caps.

The picture of PoohBear's little XL shows a different oil cap. If it is not totally airtight, it will push very little oil to the bar. I have most any part for HOMELITE XL, XL2 and Super2 series and copies of Illustrated Parts Lists available. Bill 785-562-3539

No it doesn't. In the photo the arrow is pointing toward a nut that holds the bar on. Loosen it. On the opposite side of the bar there should be a small adjusting screw to tighten the chain. Once the chain is adjusted the nut are then tightened. Use caution when tightening the nut for you can pull the studs from the saws engine block. Copy and paste the link for reference. Page two. Part #1 is the nut. If you follow the line from the nut to the engine case. You can make out the adjusting screw toward the front of the saw in front of the clutch. Page 4 the adjusting screw is part #37 A close up is in the box to the right. 1. Did you do a major/minor carb cleaning before the gaskets (even though that w/n the task)? 2. I feel some debris is affecting your needle/seat causing richness. Did you check for contaminated fuel? 3. I feel you'll have to go back, verify all is clean with compressed cleaner or compressed air and cleaner (with high/low screws removes). 4. The little needle/seat is a pain, I go straight for it for inspections/cleaning with some conditions. Good Luck
