Replacing old Richdel valve

2 of my 3 richdel anti-siphon valves are not working, and also it was installed not high enough in the first place, so I plan to replace them with rainbirds and also elevate them for the backflow protection to really work.

I'm a newbie. The existing system is vertical PVC pipe + slip/male thread adapter + richdel valve. what do I need to do?

It looks like I have to cut valve and adapter off together, hook a slip/slip to the vertical PVC pipe, then add in an additional 6 inch pipe, add another slip/male thread adapter, then hook to the new valve?

when I slip the pipe into the slip/slip adapter, do I need to put any glue in or simply push-in is enough?

The exiting valves are squeezed into very small space, surrounded by the driveway and a shrub, which makes it very hard to dig deep or cut it.

Only one anti-siphon valve is needed at the very beginning of the whole system. It has to be elevated to prevent backflow. The regular manual control valve looks similar but it has the inlet and outlet ports in a straight line and does not need to be elevated. I cannot picture the valve arrangement that you have. It is necessary to glue all the fittings

If it always comes on at the same time, it should be the timer. I had a similar problem that the sprinkers started working at the midnight even though I didn't program that way. It turned out it was programmed to start at midnight, though I wasn't sure how it got programmed.. If it comes on totally random, I'd suspect the timer is getting some glitch and randomly sending the signal. How about the cutting off the power to the timer and also removing the battery if it has one ?

Richdel heads not popping up

Van, Those Hardie/Richdel heads have a terrible wiper seal. There is really no rhyme or reason as to when they will no longer pop up or stop retracting when the zone is shut off. As with all pop up heads, it's all about the wiper seals design and material. Replace them as they fail with new heads by a different manufacturer. All Wet Texas Licensed Irrigator #1897 since 1984

Have you tried to retighten the screws ? It's better to rebuild the entire valve and not replace just the diaphram. The cost of a new valve is very close to the cost of a diaphram alone and the trouble you can run into by keeping old parts is not worth the savings you get from buying the diaphram alone. Leave the base and replace all the other parts and be careful reassembling the valve there is

ip, Please provide more detail of your system's valving setup. How many valves total? Are they configured in parallel via a manifold system? How old are they? With what type of pipe material is your system installed? What is your systems static pressure?
