I'm really thankful that California Bob posted the info about the diaphragm problem. In my back yard, I have 4 Richdel 205's, two of them slowly quit working after about 10 years. The rep at the HD store told me that the problem is definately a solenoid problem and definately not a diaphragm problem since the valves work fine manually. I purchached two of the less expensive solenoids and had no sucess. Then another rep told me that the more expensive solenoids were more powerful and would work. No sucess. I removed the solenoids from the valves and laid them on the grass so that I could watch them work when they were energized by the timer. They worked fine. I decided to look for replacement 205's on the web and found California Bob's advice about replacing the diaphragms. I puchased the diaphragms for model 204, which work fine on 205 and my sprinlers work great again. Thanks California Bob.

"City pressure can vary so most homes have one installed either out at the meter or just inside the house. This should hold pressure in the house to around 60psi. Heating of water in your HWH can raise that pressure to 100psi when the heater cycles. Nowadays it is code to have a pressure (relief) tank along side or nearby the HWH to absorb this extra pressure." This may be what is going on. I've had this happen at my house. If the pressure gets high enough it can push open a solenoid valve enough to leak or flow.

That's part of the handle. Did you remove the screw that holds it in place? It's under the end cap (pry it out gently with a utility knife (protecting your eyes just in case the tip breaks off). Or it can be located on the underside, which would be loosened with a hex wrench) Then it should pull off. After that, pull out the colllar (cylinder piece). It's usually not necessary to remove the trim plate to replace the cartridge..

i can't id thread pitch from the photo, but I can tell that won't work. Don't try to force it. Usually they have a metal guide at the store you can screw the seat into to confirm diameter and thread pitch. Use that to make sure you have the right one. Also, I'm not sure that seat - even with the right thread pitch- would work. You want the face of the seat to match the one it's replacing.
