Inexpensive '011' oil pump remedy.?

My old Stihl has stopped pumping as much oil.

I've replaced it's oil pump's filter and the diaphram with plunger.

It still just oozes; there's not enough to lay any down any oil on a background paper target when running it high - even after a bit of idle to get more onto the chain's track.

Our local dealer says that since messing with the pieces at their billable rate of $50.oo/hr is close to the cost of total replacement, they just punt and replace the complete pump.

So I've got a couple of questions..:

- if it might be a clog in the motor's channel that drives the pump,,,

- - - - How to check that / clean that without tearing something up...?

- if that channel's not clogged..

- - - - Is there a reasonably priced source for the main pump body parts; or,

-

Any other ideas other than springing for a complete new unit..?

All suggestions appreciated..!

uhmn,It may be apples and oranges, but I fixed the oilpump on my 30 yr old Stihl 041 Farmboss with a 3/8 piece of 8d nail. A pin connecting the pump drive had sheared

It's most probably "apples and oranges"
- The 011 has a ball check-valve activated -probably pushed- by a thin 'plunger' pin that's driven by a diaphram.
It would seem that either there's something amiss within the pump body where the check ball is, or perhaps the pumping action of the diaphram ain't enough on account of junk in the pressure channel back toward the cylinder.
- I'm seeking information on how.. (1) to make sure the channel supplying pressure to the diaphram is clear and functional; &/or, (2) to access the part, the pump body with the check ball in it, short of having to spring for the complete unit -the whole oil pump, available locally at an outlandish $50.oo.!
- As a last resort, yeah; but between here and tropical vacation resort without a wood stove to cook on during the winter, I'd choose here, rather than the 'last resort', eh.
- Any suggestions appreciated..!

I know it is actually easier and definitely cheaper in the long run to be organic. One just needs to be a bit more attuned to what is going on with the plants and take appropriate measures instead of a one gun fits all aproach of chemicals. The challenge here is trying to get a little harvest in the mean time while building the soil organic matter and food web. I've noticed that mulch laid down her seems to decompose about four times as fast as a similar mulch put down up there in Michigan. They do say that the higher the zone number the larger the amount of organic material needed to amend the soil. I grew up near Traverse City, Michigan and still spend time up in Alden (South end of Torch Lake, to the east of the Grand Traverse Bays.) I wish I could afford to live up there full time. I like the cornmeal idea as it not only feeds microbes but in turn combats some fungal diseases. Same with milk against powdery mildew while at the same time fertilizing.

Here you go: After all rebates (there were several) & tax credit, my geothermal system ended up costing about $13,500. It looks like I'm going to be saving about 6000 kWh per year. When using an air source heat pump, I averaged about 27.5k kWh per year, and using the geothermal heat pump I'm averaging about 21.5k. Keep in mind that I don't even have a complete year of geothermal data, but I'm basing my estimates on what I have. Based on the numbers above and an electric rate of $0.11 per kWh, I'm saving $660/yr compared to my previous system. The ROI on that is about 20.5 years. So, if you have a working system and you're considering switching over to geo, based on my #s I'd strongly recommend against it as a 20+ year ROI is horrible. The reason I went with geo was that my old system died and needed replacement. I received several estimates for an air source heat pump, and they were around $9000. For me, it was a choice between a geo system for $13500, and an air source for $9000. I can't do much of an estimate comparing these two since I have no idea what sort of performance I'd be getting with a new air source heat pump. A huge plus for the geo system for me was that my geo system came with a 10 year parts and labor warranty. No one came even close for the air source heat pumps. Its also really neat that I don't have a loud evaporator in my back yard, but the value of that is very subjective.

Again, thanks guys for the info and site. My seasonal rate posted above was stated on the monthly bill but if I understand you correctly I need to divide my last monthly bill by the number of kWh used for that period : $121.21 / 1096 kWh used = 0.11 cents If so then no need to be too jealous ;) I too understand that today's newer version of HPs are much more efficient and warmer, last month while at a buddies playing poker the terp outside was 45F and his heat pump was too warm for me (therm set up to 76F for cold natured granddad). But how it performs when 25-30F outside is another story and no doubt his ele back-up kicks in then. When my oil man suggested oil back-up he named a "Kurr" (sp?) furnace brand that he says is very oil efficient. New Central AC will most likely be Carrier. You bring up good points about the duct size, these ducts were installed when the house was remodeled back in the late 80s and are well insulated, hopefully the sizes are right for HP. Right now we use 2 oil filled ele radiators in that Fla room at night to save on furnace oil, they do well and not too expensive on the ele bill, probably keep them no matter what route we take. Thanks again for you thoughts and help, have several months to put it all together. I'll save and review your kind advice above. Any particular HP brand you like, Carrier ok?

Would you buy next to a cemetary?

Saintpfla - don't worry - some day you will be living right in the middle of a cemetery, most likely! ;) Mustardsandwiches - you made me and my husband - who I read aloud to - laugh out loud. I would KILL (mwa hahahaha) to live next to a cemetery! Quiet, peaceful, fun at Halloween, space, the knowledge it won't get built upon... and I've always liked cemeteries too like the rest of you. A few friends and I when we were younger used to go lie in the sun there or sometimes in the moonlight. Yeah I sound like a freak I know but there's this comfortable feeling of connectedness - I guess connecting to the past and the future and acknowledging the lives of strangers who once probably wondered the same wonders, you know? That said, I think if my windows looked directly over a flat field with flat markers on the ground or just modern stones and no trees, it would be less nice. If there were trees and old tombstones that would be a different thing, or trees or hedges separating my property from the graveyard at least. The other problem could be noise pollution from the lawn care they have to keep up with regularly and yes spraying constantly to prevent weeds (cough cough). But then I guess neighbors' lawn mowers would also be going all the time too. But some neighbors, at least, have draught-tollerant plants, rocks, pavers and push-mowers whereas graveyards will only and always have loud huge machinery and leaf-blowers and hedge trimmers going, etc.

About all you can do is trace where the diaphram get it's air sorce from. Clean it all up Is there a way you can move the diaphram and see if it moves air?. If the diaphram is cracked and won't move what ever matter it's suspose to you may have not choice but to get a new diaphram which IMO (if the saw is great shape) is alot cheaper than buying a new 300 to 400 dollar replacement saw which will probably not last as long as the 011 IMO.

Just make sure the saw dust that got in the oil is not caked and hard plugging the pump assy up. You can clean the passages with air pressure, if you want to visualize the air coming out the other end complete disassembly may have to be done. Carb cleaner does real good loosing up caked up saw dust and chips.

I just bought an 011 on ebay it was not oiling this is the fix I did worked great remove oil pump located just below bar and chain mount it has 3 screws pull oil pump out of oil tank remove oil line just twist and pull it will come off remove circlip right next to one of the three screws gently place screwdriver in at gasket surface and push straight in it will come apart remove diaphram there will be a needle about an inch long the brass stem is where the problem is now just take brake clean and spray into stem opposite the oil line end and blow with air reasemble and it should work good hope this helps Kirk
