I do hope you mean you want to train your regular bush type 'Queen Elizabeth's to climb on a trellis, because the climbing form of this rose is total junk. Nearly everyone who has ever grown it will tell you that 'Climbing Queen Elizabeth' grows like a weed but rarely ever blooms. It should be illegal to sell this crappy rose. The bush form, however, is a superb rose.

As trospero says, Climbing Queen Elizabeth is famous for growing vigorously and never blooming.

If you have a big trellis, get one plant of New Dawn and throw away the QEs.

In my garden where Climbing Queen Elizabeth is not the only climber I enjoy it. I bend down the canes so that it puts out more blooms. Many climbers don't rebloom so it doesn't bother me. I think you are right though not to plant two of them(and they are huge!) on this trellis that sounds like an important spot.

I think she means regular QE which in Z6 could be used to fill a six foot trellis. Nobody buys Cl.QE. The problem is that it doesn't bloom on laterals so the blooms will be mostly on the upper half of the trellis and of course it will need to be pruned severely every year and it will be necessary to redo everything. Regardless it could work. I would just gently tie it in the typical zig-zag fashion up the trellis and see what happens.

Yes it is the climbing Queen Elizabeth. A relative gave them to me last year in June. I set them out and they nearly died but this year they are doing well and they have several blooms but the canes are starting to spread out in my yard. I didn't have to prune it at all this year. I don't know much about this rose. I don't particularly like the bloom shape that much and seems like the bugs like it a little too much as do they all of my roses. Trospero you say it is total junk is it just a once bloomer or something? If it is I don't really care for once bloomers myself.
