OK to add Chinese herbal medicine to compost pile?

Debbie

I have a several bottles of Chinese herbs that my acupuncturist gave me. I was supposed to take them for various ailments, but they tasted so awful that I gave up after a week or two. They are mostly made of "herbal extracts," but some are encased in gelatin. One is called Xiao Chai Hu Tang He Si We Tang Tia Jian (translated as cold quell), another is Liu Wei Di Huang Wan (Six Flavor Tea pills). Many, many herbs are listed as ingredients. Are they safe to add to my compost pile? They supposedly have no pharmaceuticals, dye, sugar, pesticide residue or heavy metals.

Thanks, Hecka
