Is sugar maple coloring consistent from year to year?

I planted a couple sugar maples a couple years ago. One was a named cultivar and has beautiful orange leaves. The other was a seed grown sugar maple and much cheaper.

This maple has had lackluster coloring for the last 2 years, sort of a dingy yellow. Will it always have this same coloring or will it change based on the weather conditions? It's in a prominent spot and if it won't change, I will dig it up and move it. This would be the last year I will be able to do so because it is getting large. I'd rather not move it if there's hope it will be more beautiful in future years because of the effort involved in moving an established tree.

Thanks
