bare root growth question or two....

Hello All,

I have a question about bare root roses. I am new to bare root roses. I have recently planted 25 or so in my new raised beds (Austins, HT, Grands and Floribundas). There is a good amount of new bud growth (about 2 or 3 inches long) I am wondering if the new growth that is obviously going to run into a cane or grow into center of bush should be or can be removed/pruned at this point? If not now, when?

My newbie thinking was it would direct more ummmph to the bud growth that is left and promote a healthy/nice bush shape from the beginning.

I hope I wasn't confusing :-) Thanks for your help!
