Multiflora in California question

I've decided to take the plunge and ordered from Hortico, despite all that I have read about this company on this board.

Anyway, they use multiflora on their rootstocks. I wonder if multiflora is commonly used for grafted roses sold in California? I have read that multiflora is hardier than Dr. Huey, and more suitable for an area with a shorter growing season like mine.

My soil is sandy in some sections, and clay in others. Last time I ran a soil test, it tested alkaline. I wonder if multiflora grafted roses will do well in my garden. Anybody grow multiflora grafted roses in a similar garden condition and climate? What do I need to do in terms of soil amendments and fertilization?

Thanks.

Jeff
