weed whacker query

Hi All:

I'm in the market for a "medium-duty" gas weed whacker, one I can get parts for, and I'm looking for suggestions.

Background:

Lesson One: Do not use a Homelite light-duty whacker on >3" tall grass. When I showed up at Bert's machine shop, they all laughed at me. "Did you buy it at Home Depot," they asked. "Worse than that, my neighbor did, two years ago," I replied.

Lesson Two: Home Depot bought out Homelite; HD is interested in sales, not repairs. Will I take it apart anyhow? Yes. What have I got to lose? The starter cord pull mechanism has lost its ability to "grab."

Lesson Three: Went to a local hardware/ lumber yard and found a similiar type model (can't remember name) to replace neighbor's whacker. On the cover of the instruction manual it states: "For occasional use only" (reminder--Lesson #1). The lumber yard offers repair service and can get parts for what they sell (reminder--Lesson #2).

Now, I'm in the market for a gas trimmer that:

1) I can lift (and carry around for a half hour's time)

2) I can use on the tall grass and mean weeds

3) I can get service/ parts for

I'm a lightweight, yet sort of rugged gardener gal. The Stihl brand has been suggested, but what model?

Thanks for any suggestions--

--Maureen
