Non-Invasive Butterfly Bush ?
Comments (34)Update: My Buddleia davidii has since been shovel pruned. I kept getting severe ifestations of Two Spotted Spider Mites. I tried to control them with a jet of water, but that didn't work. I tried to control them with foliar insecticide, but that didn't work either. The second year was more of the same, but the spider mites began to spread to other plants in my yard. That was when I shovel pruned the butterfly bushes. The spider mites are gone from my yard now and I'm still not sure why the Buddleia davidii in my yard had such a problem....See MoreGarlic and Onions Plants as Companion Plants in an Old Rose Garde
Comments (2)In Florida you should look at society garlic (Tulbaghia violacea) and drumstick allium (A. sphaerocephalum). There also are some native species from Texas in cultivation like A. drummondi, and A. texanum, but I don't know much about them personally....See MoreFavorite companion plants for old garden roses
Comments (26)Kay- It's good to know cleome can reseed. That was one thing I meant to ask. It sounds like a great plant with the roses! Woodyoak- Clematis is always beautiful with roses. I have two metal arches in the fairy garden. Purple clematis would be perfect :) Aimeekitty- Again, your garden is beautiful! I have lavender, but it's Hidcote lavender, which is much hardier here. Catmint and salvia do well here...maybe the penstemon, but I'm not sure about the others. I do envy you your star jasmine. I just love that stuff, so I buy two small bushes at Lowe's every spring (only about $5 each) and put them in big pots, surrounded by white petunias. If I ever get enough money for a sunporch....it will be for star jasmine and an orange tree!!! LOL...See MoreTomatoes as Companion Plants for Old Roses
Comments (3)Not sure what you mean by "trouble free" tomato plants. I've never heard of anyone growing tomato plants for their attractiveness. Most grow them for fruit, not eye appeal. Even the most healthy and pest free plants look pretty ragged by the end of the season....See Morejardineratx
