ARE has great roses. They are as good as Chamblees, a little more expensive, but larger.

I would not want to get any bare-root roses right now, but I am in zone 8. What is your mean temperature right now?

I agree. In fact, I'd say ARE's roses are at least as nice as Chamblees. And, in my experience, they have always been larger plants, of course, for a little more money. I buy from both places, both mail-order and in person at their home operations. Both places are top notch and offer excellent value for the product you get. ARE is special for me because of the operation that they run there. One trip to visit ARE deep in the heart of Texas and you immediately realize it's much, much more than an ordinary business. They actually show you how a cottage garden should look, with roses, perennials, shrubs, and ornamental trees in a natural surrounding. After my first visit there, I never thought of a "rose garden" the same way again. Now it's a garden, that happens to have garden-worthy roses growing in it.

I don't know anything about bare-root roses ... I always buy own-root container roses.

you can plant bare root rooses but you need to water, mist, protect them more - can you pot them up first and keep them shaded till they leaf out or can you heal them in.

Not too late to plant bareroots, but some vendors won't guarantee them past a certain date and usually just won't ship here after early April. Some bareroot vendors stopped taking orders in early March. This is how we learn that ordering in the fall when most bareroot vendors open is how to get the roses that we want. Yes, we might have to wait, but we have other pretty plants to play with during that time.

I don't understand why they won't ship bare root roses, yet you remove the rose from the pot of soil, and often have a bare root.

I also buy from ARE and Chamblees, and wonder how much difference there is in teh size by
