Bird Control in Greenhouse/High Tunnel

blueberrier1

Am a new High Tunnel gardener. Sides are drop down (since they allow good temperature control for us), while a few nearby folks have roll up. Everyone is complaining about bird invasions to various crops this growing season.

Have successfully raised many greens and strawberries the past year, but do not want bird droppings on anything.

Met a farmer who specializes in tomatoes and he said he simply installs 1" square hardware cloth on each sidewall at initial construction. Another uses insect screen as he does not want any critter to have access.

I finally placed some light weight black plastic bird netting on the sides, but still get a few bird invasions. How is everyone else dealing with this problem? Is insect screen overkill?

The state U High Tunnels do not have anything in place...yet!
