I SO don't want to admit this!

Against my better judgment, I agreed to let my husband hire Chemlawn last summer. Very disatisfied, (all the weeds are still there) we terminated their services but of course, they sprayed several times. We have a weed problem and we've also used weed and feed this spring in an effort to control it. I don't see my husband giving up on chemicals.

On to the real question. I plan on doing a small, 4x4 or so, raised bed in my backyard for pole beans and some tomatoes and herbs and such. But I'm afraid the chemicals in the soil will kill everything. If I build up say 6" and fill in with good, healthy, organic compost and purchased soil, do you think I can get things to live? Or will the roots go down to the tainted soil and everything just die?

Please don't yell at me.
