What is this larvae in my terrarium??

I have noticed that the plants in one of my terrariums are not looking so good, not growing at all. I checked through the soil and found a few of these larvae:

Anyone know what type of insect this will be? Could this be the cause of my plants looking bad?

Not sure what the larvae is, but when I did my terrarium, I didn't allow any "airspace" for my roots. My plants eventually died from that mistake. The next one I did, I added some mulch to the soil to allow for airflow and improved drainage over a layer of rocks and carbon. It did better, but I never did figure out growing in a terrarium. It's a centipede. A predator of small critters on the ground. Not dangerous to people.

Hi Scott, I did a little reading. It seems Cucumber Beetles do enjoy tomatillos! They will often eat them and ignore the cucumbers. This in the long run is a good thing since the tomatillo damage is only cosmetic and damage to the cucumbers is bad because of the virus. I'm not sure about the brown grubs, but they are easy to take care of by squishing them as you did : ) Remy

Thank you. These are exactly the culprits. Any ideas of how to get rid of them? I did notice that the hornets are very selective about which larvae they eat. Sometimes, they just tear one open and then leave it (fine with me). I think they only want the ones without poo on their backs. (http://www.aginfo.psu.edu/psa/fw97/poop.html) Thanks again. -Scott

Bugs you are mentioning usually live in "compost" - damp, wet and organic conditions. I do not know what plants you have in it, but it must be wet and very humid. If your orchid smells horrible, it is most likely rotting. If my plant, I would take it out of rotting mess ASAP.

WE get those Curled rose slugs here....I invite lots of birds ect by providing bird baths and the birds get food from our compost and mulch... These days I just let them be...Nature seems to thin them out... Years ago I used Spinosad which was effective... OR I picked picked them off the bush... By the way our curled rose slugs like to eat holes in the petals of the blooms also...

Actually, I think its a millipede (paired small legs per segment, slow marching movement), one of the flatter species that superficially look like centipedes. An egg or baby probably came in on a plant or with the soil mix. It's in there eating decaying organic matter and shouldn't hurt the plants.
