Spayed today first this spring.

Actually I was thinking I am doing well having sprayed the roses today for the first time this year. Some years I am even more oraganised and start earlier, some years later. But this is about the right time. I mixed some Neptunes liquid Seaweed Fertilizer in with the Systemic Fungicide so the roses should be happy and start growing well. I already spread the alfalfa about a month ago and the Rose Tone last week. So let those roses grow and set buds for a great June bloom flush.

Best of luck getting those awesome blooms!
Things are slower here this season, but blooms should start happening Mid to later May.

The spring flush here is always early to mid June. Depends on weather we had a warmer or colder spring I guess.

I got more ambitious after I finished with the roses and sprayed my honeysuckle vines for aphids also. I get them each spring.

Jean, I think they are very pretty. Paper Butterfly is one of my favorites. MMM does look like a Stella to me also. The varients/uf's are especially nice. I have a lot of new ones this year and can't wait for them to bloom in my zone 7a. Still, we are have very cool nights so I think that is slowing them down. I don't have any blooms on the established plants yet but have 2 or 3 on some of the new ones! Have a nice week!...Ellie

You must be really excited that the bloom season is coming. Especially since you have taken the plunge and gotten all those new (to you) iris and daylilies in your new garden. I don't envey you all that work but I sure will love to see pictures of your redone gardens blooming.

Yeah! Greens. My mother who was only one generation removed from pioneer stock, at this time of the year would hunt our lawn, garden, and countryside to concoct a fresh salad. This would be her first fresh food since the first frost of last fall. Young dandelion leaves were part of that salad. Another ingredient was wild onions. The dressing was made with bacon fat and seasonings. The salad was sauteed in skillet with anything else she could find to throw in. If she found morel mushrooms, these would be chopped and tossed in. My sister and I viewed this dish with a jaundiced eye and would eat a little of it, while Mom devoured the remainder.

Julia, sadly I don't know the name. I am notorious to buy the 50 cent droopy, drying plants at the big box stores on clearance. If they are perennials, I think I can afford to take the chance. Unfortunately, many have long since lost their tags. We southerners must be careful in choosing our peonies. Late bloomers never bloom for very long here. This one has been blooming for several weeks so I am thinking it is one of the ones that can actually survive here. Kay, thanks for the encouragement. I think the weeds (the ice cream ones!) seem to be worse than ever this year. All that rain, I am sure. However, I love spring and all the color.

What a coincidence, same here. Yes, I'm behind schedule. It has been either wet/rainy, cold, and/or too windy. I feel like this kicks off the rose season.

I'll start this weekend. It has been too damp and chilly for me, I haven't been in the mood. But, my lilac is blooming, so I know I need to be out doing something!

I am glad I was able to get the spraying done yesterday. It is bright and sunny but very windy today, not good for spraying. My lilacs are no were ready to bloom!

The roses got a lot of rain as it just been raining lots and lots around here. Most of them are nicely leafed out and starting new growth. They look good all green now as I have been waiting since early to mid March for them to leaf out and start growing. So the next thing will be to watch out for buds setting but it is going to be awhile before that happens.

Rita, I thought so too, but when I was out planting today, I saw big buds on Excellenz von Schubert. Not much on the others, but Baby Faurax is usually next.

Wow....I'm zone 5, Central Illinois, and all of our lilacs started blooming over a week ago. No buds on anything yet except maybe my one OGR.

Ha, my lilacs are blooming now, just started.

Did my second rose spraying and those roses sure do look good. Lots of new growth. I have mixed the liquid seaweed fertilizer with the fungicide these first two sprayings this spring and the roses love it.

Actually they were due to spray Wednesday but it was raining and then yesterday so terribly windy. Felt cold even as the wind went right thru my gardening fleece jacket.

So I have been following my usual that works great for me every two weeks spraying. Been using the Neptune Liquid Seaweed Fertilizer mixed in with the systemic fungicide. But today was spray day and they are in full bloom. I didn't want the liquid seaweed to stain the blooms so I left it out when I sprayed today. Now I don't know if it would stain but I wasn't going to find out.
