Looking for a purple rose
Comments (47)Ah, how difficult this matter is for those of us who are crazy for lavender/violet/lilac/purple roses! Colour is so subjective, and does indeed seem to be so variable. I have been disappointed so many times by roses that are touted as "purple", only to find them in reality to be -at least in my soil and climate-basically carmine red. I am very picky about colour and it's definitions; to me, for example, Burgundy Iceberg and Cardinal Hume would be more precisely described as , well, BURGUNDY in colour, rather than what to me would be the true purple. Frankly I think that,to generalize one is probably "safer" with once-bloomers,but I myself am always on the lookout for repeaters in this colour range. Have you considered "Indigo "?...See MoreRoses for a healing garden, rose selection please help
Comments (11)God bless you and your mother, the most fragrant roses I've smelled include: Baronne Prevost' a pink rose. Papa Meilland a red rose, that has a chalice shaped bloom. Mr. Lincoln, another red rose Oklahoma a red-black rose by the way, be sure and plant deep red roses in partial shade so they don't burn and crisp. "Pope John the second" rose is very fragrant, of mixed floral. "Lemon Spice' and Lemon Zest' are very fragrant yellow roses. nearly everybody who sees my rose garden, enjoy the sight of Double Delight' and are even more impressed when they smell it. creamy white centers edged with pink or red depending on the climate. Ebb Tide' for a fragrant purple rose. For historical interest 'The Apothecary Rose' which was used for centuries in Europe to treat both blood and womens' complaints, with its' petals being used for potpourri. I think hortico.com still sells it, under Gallica. Pax and Moonlight for white roses that have a Musk Rose scent, both are very floriferous. hortico.com ships bareroot roses in winter and they sell Moonlight' . helpmefind.com/ under "Plant" and "Search" shows all the above roses. kind thoughts, love, and best wishes for healing, Luxrosa P.S, a scented rose garden with lavender and rosemary, and lemon verbena around it, can uplift the spirits....See MoreWANTED: Rose Cuttings Fragrant Antique/Fragrant Roses

Comments (3)Thank you! It does look like the Amadis. I am going to research the boursault more but wanted to answer those questions. I posted more pictures to the above link. Some canes are thornless and others have thorns. From the ground the canes come straight up and are not flexible at first but some canes are longer and those that are longer become arching and more flexible. The leaves are medium green and not rough, they are smooth. Foliage is not shiny, it is matte. At the cottage the owner indicated that his son-in-law had mistakenly mowed over the rose bush so his was short and, well, looked mowed over. So yes, it is throwing out longer canes and those are bending after a certain point. I looked at some pictures of the Amadis and it looks quite similar, my center is more yellow than the pictures but this could just be from those pictures I have viewed thus far, need to spend more time looking at the pics. And I have it in a great location right now to hold the color, although that will change in a few years I'm sure. There are pine trees behind it several feet and on both sides, several yards away. Provides it with great protection and the sun is not beating down on it all day so the color seems to stay great so far. But the pines will grow obviously. Is your Amadis large? Once bloomer? Its my first rose to bloom, the rest of my roses are still buds not opened yet. Thank you for this help! karen...See MoreJean Marion (z6a Idaho)
