Honda FG 110 mini-tiller
Comments (73)I notice several people have problems with motors dying and/or not putting out full power. Besides the choke issue, there are 2 others I've noticed. On a used Troy Bilt mini tiller I bought (2 stroke Tecumseh), I could start it, but it wouldn't rev adequately or keep running (I got it really cheap). Pulled the tiny hose off the tank, and not a drop of gas came out. Ran a wire up the barb, and still nothing. Cracked the fill cap a bit, and gas shot out. A plugged air vent on the cap--that's one reason they won't keep going. But that didn't solve it. Still wouldn't rev. Then I remembered that in the manuals for every engine I've used ever used (big old Tecumsehs and Briggs 4 strokes, little 2 strokes, etc.) they always say to screw the main jet down to seat it (gently), then back out 1 and one-half turns. You're then supposed to turn it back in (with the engine running) until it runs rough, then back out til it's rough, then go to half way between--that's the sweet spot. But try to do that with a tiny engine buzzing and hopping around. So I just left it at 1 1/2 turns out, and it runs like a champ. I know this won't solve everybody's problem, but it's cheap and quick and easy to do. I do agree with the people who prefer 4 strokes, and they've somehow figured how to make them work even with trimmers, which obviously aren't level much of the time. I wonder how they do that?...See MoreTroy-Bilt Horse Tiller assistance
Comments (164)Lary, These are forward rotating tine machines, not counter-rotating tines. All of the old Horses were this way. Bill, The number you posted is just a casting number, not the serial number. Look below the T-handle and clean all the gunk off to find a serial number. Parts that you need are readily available from a bunch of sources, including MTD (who took over for Troy Bilt) Jenice, If you have the 6HP Tecumseh engine, you dont have all of the model number. What you posted is the "spec" number. Your model number is most likely HH60. Use that model number, and you shouldnt have any problem finding the carb kit. The recoil starter may be a little bit harder to find....See Moremini tiller -what brand should I get????
Comments (20)Frank, I have one of the Honda FG110 mini tillers talked about. It starts very easy and is very quiet since it is the 4 cycle and not the noisy 2 cycle. No mixing the oil/gas. It is also very economic to run. I was amazed after starting mine, warming the engine up (1st. time) then giving it a little throttle. Without the wheels on it I was able to give it just enough throttle to walk behind going across the grass to the area I was going to try it on. Worked perfect. Once to the area, (without the drag bar or wheels on) I gave it throttle and I was more impressed! It is so strong and so quiet. It dug down as deep as I wanted to go and turned the soil to a perfect planting texture. To move along forward all you have to do is slow the engine down just a little or rock the handlebars just a little. It will walk over big roots of trees with no problem. You can take off the outside tines and till a very small row of about 5" I believe which is great for weeding and making water ways for gardens. There are 4 ways you can transport it. Carry it with the carring handle, put it in a wheel barrell, with a little throttle walk it on the tines or use the transport wheels. The old 100 had gear problems from what I have read. The new FG110 has changed and incorperated a new worm gear for smooth, strong and reliable tilling. I LOVE mine needless to say! I use it everyplace now. Some people even pull theirs backwards. I have done that but cannot understand why others do. Maybe the soil they are working? I don't know how any other tiller could be as quiet, strong and reliable as the Honda FG110. I highly recommend it....See Morefg 100 engine dies once it get warm
Comments (5)The most important is the spark arrestor. Use paper towl with rubbing alcohol to wipe or old tooth brush dip a little alcohol and brush the screen. Tap the muffler gently to get the loose stuff out and use Q-tip with alcohol to clean as much as possible. Usually you can see the spark arrestor clog up. Look into the engine exhaust port to make sure no obvious carbon builtup. Let the alcohol dry out and put it all back together and run it. If it still stall, loosen the gas cap a little and try it to see whether it will run continuously. Because it run good for the first 10 minutes, I don't think is spark plug, valve adjusting or gas filter problem yet. We'll see, write back and hopefully someone else have other suggestion....See Morercmoser
