What is wrong with me?

Today is the day I have scheduled to turn my whole pile. I can't wit to get home to do this. What is wrong with me? It's a pile of rotting stuff and I sit at work anticipating getting home to turn it??? *sigh* ... I don't have an addictive personality but sometimes I do get obsessed :-:

I completely sympathize - I find it relaxing to sit outside with some scissors and cut up things for my compost... how sad is that!

I am excited about spring but not in a hurry. I still have about 700 roses to prune. Every year I have dreams about the garden. Some of them are almost inpossible. Some of the almost impossibles I made possible. Now that I can't handle much more I am thinking of roses that require little care. A friend has asked us to take over and plant his rambler collection that is still in pots. I envison planting them all along the road that goes to our water pump. I would make a ceramic sign that says"Rambling Rose Road". The cool thing is that if they are planted on either side of the road then I won't have to dig a pathway. The problem in paradise is that we will have to build a very long exspensive fence(for deer). Michael wants first to fence a smaller area where we can keep the pots. I looked at that area and decided that it would be a great place to plant species roses. I went to the Vintage site and picked out a dozen beautiful species roses. I just can't help myself.

What is it that you like about a tomato, Flavor wise, texture ect. also give us an example of a full size tomato that you really like and describe why. And also provide an example of a smaller cherry/grape tomato that you like and describe why its tops to you. That will provide enough information that will allow the vast choices to be narrowed down to just a few for you. Their a so many choices and so little garden space to try them all..... ;-) Many tastebuds here at GW to give you feedback on the above questions. I'd say get yellow submarine and enjoy it. George

Nothing is wrong. Many of us have been there, with the same thoughts and feelings. You have been, and continue, doing what needs to be done. I'm sure somewhere in your mind, you know that once you start, you'll lose it completely, and you really can't afford to do that now. And this may go on for a long time, then what. You need to get through each day as best you can. Sitting next to her holding her hand is more than enough. She has always known how much you love and care for her, a grand, tragic scene won't make any difference. If she is aware, she's probably grateful that at least you haven't fallen apart. There will be plenty of time to cry - the shower is the best place for that, too. It will sneak up on you when you least expect it, so be prepared when you hear a song or there's a familiar smell, you'll know. And you'll cry, because you miss her, and because you have good memories.

There's potentially good news about Annie. (That's the name I decided to give her when I took her to the vet last week.) A rescue organization has decided to help out, and will provide her with a space each weekend at their adoption events. The lady in charge feels pretty certain she'll be adopted quickly, because they don't have any kittens....yet. There's a bunch on the way, since kitten season is rapidly approaching, but there's definately hope Annie will find a new, forever home soon. They are also paying for her to be spayed and vaccinated, so I don't have to take her to the grist-mill style clinic that does the ferals. Not that they're a bad place, but they will do as many as 150 cats in one day, which has to be stressful on the cats. It's necessary, but I'm glad she's not going to have to deal with scores of other cats around her. Anyway, I had said I was going to have her done this past Monday, but I put it off because she was having diarrhea. It's a good thing, since now she's going to a privet vet clinic instead. her first adoption event will be next Sunday. Sally

I don't want to turn my pile, and rarely make what always ends up being a pitiful, completely ineffective, and utterly pointless waste-of-effort-attempt at it. Maybe you're the normal one and there's something wrong with me? It's ok, the compost will happen (much more slowly at my house than yours!)

The question should be "What is wrong with the people who think this is abnormal?" Turning compost is one of the more gratifying acts of gardening, on a par with harvesting potatoes or watching someone taste a "real" tomato, or eating peas right off the vine.

I like having my 7 year old with me so she can see the steam and feel the heat ... she thinks it's cool. Then we look at the bugs.

Pile turned. Seemed fairly evenly heated. Odd that there were dry spots after getting rain just about every day. I did water it about every foot. I'm OK with it being a little soggy because it will dry out.

I sent my spouse out with the compost the other day and *forgot to tell him which pile* to put it in. I was good when I realized he put new scraps in the nearly done pile. Once it stops being cold and drizzling, I'm going out there to move the new material. :)

This would be why "Get High on Compost"

Don't worry. It's the good kind and we intuitively know it.
