Troy Bilt Horse Tiller Chipper/Shredder
Comments (4)Frosty, we have one of those and it's very slow and ineffective. We never use it. The only reason we have it is that it came with the powerhead, along with rototiller, log splitter and generator attachments. The rototiller and log splitter work great! There is probably something much more effective available for chipping/shredding. Here's a tip for you. If your Horse is old like ours and has point ignition, a Kohler replacement ignition coil is about $100. A Tecumseh coil is a perfect fit for about 1/4 the price....See MoreTroy Bilt Horse Drive Shaft Bearings
Comments (3)Call this number and Bill can help with parts and your problem Bill 1-800-609-5110. The worn bearing is the rear one and should be replaced. Remove the tine cover and the rear cap. Drive the main shaft to the rear using a "Dead Blow" or shot filled mallet. Don't use a metal hammer or you will damage the shaft. The bearing will come out with the shaft. The front race should just slip out. Drive the old bearing off the shaft and press a new one on. You can also slip a new bearing on the front if you choose. Remove the seal from the front cover and replace the cover and bearing race. Slide the shaft in until the front bearing seats in the race. Slide the rear race in and add shims as required. Bolt the cap up. Test for end play and add or remove shims as necessary. Once everything is ok, install the new seal at the front, add gear oil and go. I can supply the parts. Comments (3)TroyBilt went bankrupt a few years ago, and its assets were acquired by MTD. Present-day Troy Bilts are made by MTD. I understand that they are still supporting the old stuff. Go to the MTD web site and do a search. Also, if there is a local dealer who handles Troy Bilt, they should be able to help. Good luck....See More1886 Troy Bilt Horse 8HP Kohler Professional Model
Comments (10)mrt: I would be surprised if the Heating and Quenching does not resolve the seized condition. When you expand the internal threads of the tubing via the Torch Heat (Red Hot) then quench the Plug the external threads of the plug will shrink slightly and the Galled condition will be eliminated for a few seconds. Just enough to quickly remove the Plug. Follow Nods advice on the anti seize compound sure makes life easier next time lol ....See Morehighmark
