Columnar Shrubs Along Fence

Hi:

I'm working on a design for a couple of areas between my deck and neighbor's fence (about 10 feet wide), and along my back fence line. I would like to go with something that resembles italian cypress, but I'm in zone 5. I have no problem pruning a couple of times a year. I would prefer something that reaches a height of around 15 feet, columnar in shape, and I like the columnar pruning as opposed to something tear-dropped. I like Yew, as I had these at my house before I moved recently, but they grow really, really slow. I was looking at spartan junipers. Anything else I should be considering? I saw some upright boxwood (pretty expensive) at the local nursery, but I don't know if this will get that tall. I also like the idea of pruning a few into topary shapes---say oblesk's or something. I've had good success doing things like this in the past with yew.

Thanks for any suggestions.
