do I or don't I? what ould you do??

I'm looking at buying a used Stuppy Greenhouse. Here's the info I have so far.....35(?)' x120', fans, heaters, cooling wall, timers, frame.....everything is included except the poly!

It was used to grow hydroponic tomatoes, but the poly was ripped off in a hurricane a few years ago (maybe 5?) It's sat there since because the folks are getting unable to do it anymore.

I'm pretty new to greenhouses, and I'm not familiar with this brand.

The guy says he paid $17,500 for it as a kit 20 years ago.

Now for the price $2,000 for all.

Anybody??? Good deal? not? should I try to negotiate more?

I need to get back to him soon..........please help me!!

After 20 years will the fans and timers still work or are you just buying the frame work.

The mechanical parts were in operation and maintained until just a few years ago. The man said that the cooling wall was replaced about a year before so it's only been used 1 season. He said the one before that one had lasted about 10-11 seasons.The couple are getting older and less interested in the operations, so when a hurricane blew the poly off a few years ago, they just never replaced it.
I'm going to take a better look at it today and ask more questions.

J, I don't know if you ever made that pillow but here's a little more info (and a recipe :o). I really like the smell (perhaps, oddly enuf) of the Artemisia that grows along the rivers after the water drops in the Summer. It is also here and there in dry creeks and such. Strong . . . I often pick a sprig and put it in my shirt pocket. I also grew Sweet Marjoram for the 1st time this year and have been trying to come up with uses for it . . . Once again; it has a fragrance that I just really like and IÂve been picking a little and carrying around in my pocket in and out of the garden. Apparently, Artemisia vulgaris is also called Mugwort. Here's a recipe using it, marjoram and hops from Jim Long's book on dream pillows: "Restful Sleep Pillow 1 tablespoon rose petals (any color as long as theyÂre fragrant and not chemically treated) 1 teaspoon mugwort 1 teaspoon marjoram 1 teaspoon hops (broken up a bit with your fingers) Fabric Thread Fiberfill "Mix herbs together. Sew previously washed cloth to make a 5-by-5-inch pillow, into which youÂll place some fiberfill, herb mixture and a bit more fiberfill, and sew the pillow closed. To use, simply place the pillow any-where inside your pillowcase Â it doesnÂt matter where since most people move their heads around during sleep anyway. For three days now, I have been seeing a rather large spider crawling across the top shelf of my computer desk. I haven't tried to catch it to put it outside, because grabbing among all the stuff on the shelf would result in a disaster. It must be difficult to go through life fearful of bugs, spiders, snakes, etc. I don't have that fear, in fact for the most part I find them fascinating, and in the case of spiders, when practical, adopt a live and let live attitude. My mother was the same, as is my sister and my children. But in my husbands family, they all are more fearful. So I am wondering if a persons feelings about such things are inherited or perhaps learned.

Vastly better, although I think the hood and cabs should be the same height. The window looks 100% better without those two narrow cabs flanking it, too. BTW, I would swap the fridge and the tall pantry cabinet so that your fridge doesn't open into that wall (and so the pantry cabinet isn't between your fridge and your landing space for prep items).

New nickel doorknobs don't match old brass hinges. What do I do??

You could do what the brilliant former owner of our house did, slap paint on them as you paint the door. They even did matching light switches. While we question who did this, a lazy relative or paid painter, the hinges have stayed since they are hard change. So maybe painting them to match door frame is not so bad an idea. Also I have seen a DIY blog where they spray painted cabinet hinges after removing them. Metallic sharpie or paint pen??

Perhaps take a digital cam with you and take some pictures of everything and post the here.

Perhaps those with experience can then guide you better. :)

Wonderful news! I met with the owner for a check of the systems. Here's what does work....all the fans, both modine heaters, most of the thermostats.
Here's what doesn't work.....one of the thermostats needs replaced, the emitters (no problem, I'm not going hydroponic)....the pump for the cool cell panel. the panel itself is in great shape. Oh, the small, recirculating fans are shot too, but that's minor.
The sidewalls are 6' and are are set in concrete, but the overall height is 12'+, so I can work with that.
At present I have a 1000 square foot greenhouse, so I do have a bit of experience. I learned a LOT from my first one. Mainly that I wanted a bigger one! lol
I've already got that one sold so that will help offset the cost of the new one.

The price is really good even for the frame.

If you have a need for a GH that big I say go for it.
Most of the things that need replaced are not expensive.
