I need serious weed help please. I don't know what to do.
Comments (3)I saw your pix on the lawn forum. I tried something this year that worked for some of my weeds. It is a three part process so it might not work for a large lawn, but here it is. I had oxalis in full shade. 1. Sprayed with soapy sugary water as a sticking agent. 1 tsp of dish soap and 2 ounces of molasses to a quart of water. 2. Dusted the wet leaves with baking soda and allowed it to dry. Load a sock with baking soda and tap the side to let the dust fall out onto the weed. It does no damage to the sock so you can use any sock. 3. Sprayed with strong vinegar. Even in full shade the oxalis melted away. Here are the pictures. My apologies for the picture quality. I set up the tripod and did not realize how bad they would look until it was done. The target weed is on the left side of the tree trunk. In the first one I had done steps 1 and 2 the previous day with no ill effect. Second one was taken immediately after spraying with vinegar. You can see the foaming on the leaves. Third was taken after 5 minutes. You can see the yellow flower petals wilting a little. The rest of the leaves were doing the same but you can't really tell. Fourth was taken at 30 minutes. Wilt is evident. This one was taken an hour later. The plant has wilted away just like I would expect on a hot, sunny day. Here's the first one again for direct before and after comparison. Again, this was in full shade (north side of tree) on a day in the high 60s....See MoreI thought I knew about powdered milk, now I have to think again..
Comments (4)Instant milk powder is a larger grain because it's puffed-up with air and is designed to be reconstituted in cold water - hence the INSTANT aspect. Non-instant requires warm/hot water to reconstitute. As Linda pointed out, that was the cause of your mixing problems. If a recipe calls for NON-instant powdered milk and all you have is INSTANT, you need to run the dry instant powder through a blender or food processor to make a fine powder BEFORE you measure it for a substitute for non-instant. There is just too much air in instant milk to use measure-for-measure for non-instant. Important to note... Because of so much air in instant dry milk, you may need as much as 50% more to equal the same amount as non-instant. So choose carefully and figure the amount of reconstituted milk each brand makes. It takes more instant milk than non-instant to make the same amount of milk. In my long history of using dry milk products exclusively (over 28-years) instant non-fat dry milk is rarely a bargain over non-instant because they never make as much reconstituted milk. Brands vary in taste, texture and what works in certain recipes the best, and because of that I keep 5 brands of dry milk and whey-based milk substitutes in storage (instant and non-instant). One brand of instant non-fat dry milk powder has nearly half the weight in a #10 can, and another 2/3 as much as my non-instant whey-based milk substitutes - so you nearly always get half as many servings with instant dry milk products than non-instant. If you are using powdered milk products with young children, you will want to include some dry whole milk products since children require the additional fat for brain development. -Grainlady...See MoreA kitchen faucet that I don’t think I need. Comments (20)Maybe it’s because I don’t make coffee, but I can’t think of anything I cook that needs a precisely measured amount of water. I’m sure there’s something but obviously it isn’t burdensome enough that I’d need a special faucet. A faucet that requires batteries, which will need replacing and will create a disposal issue for me. I also don’t understand the faucets that automatically dispense water (maybe you touch them? Or they’re motion controlled? I can’t remember.). Sometimes I need cold water to drink, sometimes I need warm water to wash, so how is preset water temperature going to meet all my different needs? It won’t, I’ll be overriding the feature, so why pay for it? But much to the borror of many people here, when I needed a new faucet I was satisfied with the replacement the plumber had on his truck. You’ve got a new one, that works, on the truck? Perfect, let’s go with that....See MoreI don't buy them, but I never thought I'd see this
Comments (15)Elmer I agree with you about the chickens at Costco. The last one I bought, I buried in the backyard. I thought that it smelled and tasted of chemicals, chlorine, in particular. Other than that, those birds are so overly processed that you can hardly know what you are eating because it all taste chemically enhanced and brined. That Costco chicken just smelled and tasted like the miserable life and death that it experienced and not something that I want to eat. I buy meat mostly from local sources when I can , with the exception of some pork, sometimes. We were in Costco and felt adventurous so we bought one of those chickens. Never again! I am very selective about meat consumption. Rather a bit of good stuff once in a while than grocery store meat with every meal. Less quantity and more quality!! That is one reason that hubs and I have many more meatless meals. I also agree with you, Elmer, that the better quality meat tastes more like meat used to taste. A good meat needs no more than some simple seasoning. The folks who buy ground meat and add onion soup or spice mix to it are just flavoring cheap meat to taste like something that it is not. . If your meat needs that enhancement, why not just find something else? If you can get some of those outdoor raised chickens you will be amazed at how different in freshness and flavor that they are . And, they dont stink and smell like factory processed chickens. They look and smell so much cleaner! And, the broth from one of these chickens is unreal! So much of the store selections are so lacking in flavor or quality that they serve not much more purpose than to provide protein....See Moregroveraxle
