Tremendous hope for the future

I went to an education conference last week in St. Louis. The theme was sustainable living. We spent a couple of days in schools that had taken a strong stance and action to promote sustainable living. They were both composting and recycling. The students were also involved in learning about sustainable living. For example, the seventh grade students at one of the schools spent 12 weeks focusing on environmental science. They created public service announcements as a final project.

When the students were talking about their PSAs, they talked about how the whole unit was tranformative for both the students and their families. They talked about how their parents switched to CFLs, composting, and recycling. They were excited that they did energy audits of their homes. I am so excited to see that teachers are creating such transformative experiences for their students.
