Sheryl, what you can do with roses like the last picture is just wait till one of those clusters stops blooming and cut the whole cluster back further down on the stem. The rose is big enough that a little haircut like that won't bother it at all, and that would involve no more than a dozen pruning cuts for the blooms there. You do want to deadhead when possible because it signals the rose to keep putting out more blooms, assuming it's a repeat bloomer. Cynthia

stopandsmelltheroses: =) I will be more than happy to post full bed pictures for you to see. I actually did not take many this year, because I have had a lot going on. I have them from last year and Ill post them for you here. Blossom time was the best rose mistake that has ever happened to me. I ordered 3 Awakenings and one of them turned out to be Blossomtime which is a more lovely rose in my opinion. They are both very good plants with beautiful blooms. Awakening seems to be a larger plant here.

I think what you've done is exactly right. The V will fill in. One of my Edens is at least 12' x 12' and very full. I didn't zig zag the canes because I didn't expect it to get that big and I wanted height, but it still blooms all the way down because it is constantly producing new canes and they fan out on their own, producing laterals. If it were me, I'd start training new canes from the bottom as they get long enough to position. However, since it is flexible, training from the top would be possible. Great choice. Eden is gorgeous.
