'Old' grass clippings for Lasagna Garden?

After much research I've decided to give lasagna gardening a try this spring. I want to get planting this spring, but I'm lacking enough organic matter to get started in a couple weeks. However, I have piles of last year's grass clippings and leaves in the woods next to my house. I suspect they are wet and quite matted down. Can these be used this year? I'm not going to have fresh clippings until mid April.

Also, I've read a lot of variations on the structure of the lasagna layers. I'd like to try to aviod peat moss if possible. Is this an appropriate "recipe"?:

(From bottom to top): Newspaper, hay, leaf mulch, grass clippings, shredded newspaper, leaf mulch, grass clippings.

Thanks!
