You know there are some plams I really like but there just ain't no use gowing them cuz they do nothing,heres my short list-S.minor,T.nanus,C.humilus( a larger plant would probably remove this from the list but cold hardiness has to be factored in)Needle palms,these are hard to establish this far north but this is one I will probably keep trying as it is extremely hardy!Blue needle palm,I would like to try this again as I think my small one may have come back,they are very sloooow and I will replace with S.louisiana-anyway you get the point,this logic reverses when you consider something like a Washy,they may not be super cold hardy but they repay you with incredible growth!

They transplanted a bunch of turkeys to our area a couple of years ago. It was quite the sight to spot them and make a u-turn on the canyon road to see if we could spot them again. This last winter they were ALL over town. So now it's a ho-hum, turkeys again. We should start seeing them again soon as they bring the poults down with them to "graze" in the fields around town. I never put food out for them because they scratch like hens and I certainly didn't want to invite them into my garden. Luckily, they stayed on their own side of the fence. The dogs made sure of that.

Well thank you again everyone! I'm in Florida and mostly planted foliage that stays colorful year-round. Like I said, my house isn't grand or anything but it was a neglected foreclosure when I bought it. I still need a tree somewhat off to the side but one that will not grow so wide as to block my light in the art room. So far I haven't seen anything that I like. I will post some pictures tonight. Right now I'm doing some stepping stones in the back to mark a path so the guys who mow will stop trampling the things I have planted. Breaks over now and not much light left so gotta go.

They are sempervivums, likely sempervivum tectorum. Semps generally all look alike, with variations in color depending on light and their environment.
