Best way 2 treat blackspot on roses! help!
Comments (11)I use sulfur. Some people mix sulfur and lime but I never do and I get good results. Stay away from those chemical fungicides, they work a little better for the short term. In the end you would be better off replacing the rose, rather than polluting your entire yard. Ill second what someone else wrote. Make sure the rose is planted properly, in good soil, at the proper height. Proper pruning is very important as well. Chances are if the entire plant is already infested with black spot you are going to lose the plant or just tolerate the black spot until it dies. I've seen roses live for years with black spot. The main thing to remember is it is contagious, so if you are growing only one rose it isn't so bad. If you have fifty roses, get rid of the infected plant....See MoreWhat to expect after treating black spot
Comments (8)Hmmm, the Bayer products are good? Last year I used the Bayer 3 in 1 granules once a month, which has the tebuconazole in it: http://www.bayeradvanced.com/rose-flower-care/products/all-in-one-rose-flower-care This year I didn't see that same product so I just picked up their 2 in 1 product instead - doesn't have the disease control: http://www.bayeradvanced.com/rose-flower-care/products/2-in-1-systemic-rose-flower-care Sounds like I should have looked harder for the 3 in 1. I will look for the products you've listed. I'm glad to hear that they should put out new leaves! For the hydrangea, I've been using a combination of two products, actually mixed together, as recommended by my local garden center: fertilome horticultural oil with a bonide fungicide. She said the idea is that the oil will help the fungicide to not wash off and that it has antifungal properties of its own as well. It seems like a lot to me, but I sprayed with Daconil last year up to every other day and it did virtually nothing. I'm hoping that after this year I can back off a little with so much spraying? I really appreciate your advice! This post was edited by sara82lee on Sat, May 24, 14 at 13:48...See MoreWhat is the best way to kill black-spot?
Comments (6)Florida is a high stress area for Blackspot to develop. Do you know if your area is a high stress or low stress area for Blackspot? What type of rose did you receive? If you live in a very low stressed area for Blackspot and the rose you received is very disease resistant, I wouldn't do anything. And I know of no effective organic Blackspot control to recommend. If you live in a higher stressed area, then a lot of people recommend a chemical fungicide called Bayer Advanced Disease Control for Roses, Flowers, Shrubs. I'm including the label directions. Please read carefully to see if this is something you want to use and a route you want to take. Here is a link that might be useful: Bayer Advanced Label...See Morebest way to treat blackspot ?
Comments (25)Gypsum and Potassium Sulphate is the cure for the dreaded BS in my garden. One teaspoon Gypsum, two teaspoons Potassium Sulphate, once a week, water it in with my hosepipe. If very rainy - twice - 3 times per week. If dry, much less. If needed I sprinkle some corn meal over the leaves, but that usually only happens right at the end of summer when dew starts building up heavily. Straw gave me this amazing 'recipe'. Both the gypsum (Calcium) and Potassium Sulphate are anti-fungal. Potassium also helps with strong new basal shoots and lots of blooms. Also keep good circulation....See Morepete41
