pop up ads on this site

Every time i come to this site i get the pop up ads can't navigate the site just sit and watch ads. I don't have this problem on other sites is it this site or do I have a virus. Anyone else get that Crystal light ad all the time.

nope. Are you a) using firefox, and b) installed an adblocker?

Thanks for the reply.
I stopped mine by going into add ons and disabled flash media ActiveX control and now I don't get all those annoying flash videos on this site.

LMAO...I remember when someone asked you (Remy) what browser you were using, and your reply was that you didn't know what a browser was... I too use/love Firefox...isn't it great? I like the ability to easily open so many tabs at once...maybe even opening my GW favs folder...25 all at once. Sure helps on dial-up to have a page loaded and waiting for me when I get to it. it kind of sucks to have to load a new program just to avoid annoying ads I agree, but you can beat them at their own game. Karyn, You'll probably like Firefox too. It is said that IE is the least 'secure' of all browsers. My experience with it, is that it is a lot slower...really notice 'slowness since I'm on dial-up. Oh, KYgirl--Big hugs coming from me, too. I haven't been on his forum in a while because I've been dealing with our own build from He$$, and I didn't read all the responses in this thread, but I did read your original post. We've just gone through something very, very similar--different problems, but similar in scope, jerk of a builder, almost no on-site supervision, several horrible subs, lots of stress and tears. It has been horrible. We ended up moving into our house ten days ago while it was still unfinished because of having to be out of our rental, reaching our bank deadline for closing, etc. I just wrote you a long post, but realized that it ended up being about me, not you--and this is your thread! So, I guess I just want to say that I sympathize with you, and I think I understand a lot of what you must be feeling. It's a good day if I haven't cried more than once before 9 a.m.! This has been the most stressful, unpleasant experience of our lives. Friends will say, "Oh, you must be so excited to be in your house," and I feel like a spoiled brat if I don't respond positively. It has been a nightmare. There's still lots to be done here, dh and I are doing and/or redoing stuff that we've already paid contractors to do, but they either did a crappy job or haven't been showing up. It just sucks. As badly as I feel for you, reading your post at least made me feel as though I'm not the only one who has gone through this and I thought you might want to know you're not alone. The old misery loves company routine, I guess! Take care of yourself, and try not to let it get you down--I know how hard it is, but if we don't look at the positive side, we'll go completely crazy. Although, at least you could then plead insanity when you're charged with killing Mr. Peanut!

For those of you computer illiterate folks such as myself (I called the kid who built my computer) go to tools select internet options click on security select custom level and then disable it all!

This may (or may not) allow you access to information on some sites, but you can always return to your previous/current settings by simply selecting Default Level as this will restore the original settings.

Don't you find it strange that the ads are never for garden-related products? They are always for junk that I would never consider buying, maybe that's because the ads are targeted towards women.

I'm sure most of the people who frequent these forums would rather eat home-grown produce than something like Crystal Light!

I don't mind the odd add here and there presented as a picture. But I HATE when websites use Flash or other invasive and bandwidth-stealing presentation engines.

I block ALL of that from any site. If a site "requires" it, I just move on. From me, they lose more than they gain.

I wouldn't be surprised that others feel the same.

Bobb, as a paid member I don't see the ads as long as I've logged in ... however, on those occasions I don't bother log in, I do get to see those ads, and there's nothing there I'm interested in either. From the comments I've seen in various forums, the women gardeners seemed just as annoyed as the men, maybe more so. (In retrospect, some were kind of funny in a way ... I mean, really ... the best man thong!?!?) Some of those ads were really tacky (at best) to obnoxious (at worst) for a while there, and I made my feelings known to GardenWeb as well as directly to the sponsors of those ads. I'm glad to see that someone seems to have been listening and toned them down a bit.

Also glad to see I'm not the only stodgy ol' curmudgeon in the garden :-)
