pH and fertilizers
Comments (5)Compare to urine, commercial compound granular fertilizers are far more reliable and user-friendly for new inexperienced gardeners. The nutrient content of urine varies greatly from one diet to another. Nevertheless urine is still very effective in the hands of those who made the effort experimenting with them for years. One common mistake a new gardener could is to use urine without sufficient dilution. 1 part urine to 8 part water will burn roots of many plants. Comments (9)bad idea!! i do know that tha bad bacteria is not good, and that the distribution is 20/1 20 being water and 1 being urine. you could do that in one of those hose end sprayers. it'll break it down correctly for ya, i think. and you could put the urine in the "jug" and just dump it in as needed. i soooo need to get one!! LOL i keep needing to do that. and today we were supposed to do the urine in the compost, since i'm doing the compost tumbler, ihave to use the kid's, now you do know, if you take any kind of medications it's not good to use your own urine, especially if your using it on vegies and such. when i told my son i needed his urine for the compost, man he was grossed out, he's 12, my daughter is 6, i've been getting after her about urinating in things, so she was more than happy to do this for me!! LOL **big grinn** gotta love the kids!! LOL he'll make my flower beds but give me heck about urinating in a jug!! LOL but he'll pee behind a tree!! hmmmm.....somethings wrong!!! ROFL!!! ~Medo p.s. i hope i helped in ANY way even if it was to make ya laugh a LITTLE!! LOL **grinn** :')...See MoreUsing my urine to fertilize lawn?
Comments (81)I spent a decent amount of time looking for a hose end sprayer that could attach to something larger than a quart size container. Lafferty Model 51 Sprayer does just that. It comes with an attachment that connects to a gallon jug, but you can easily drop the ten foot line in a five gallon bucket. It does come with several metering tips that allow you to dilute at various ratios, but the standard ratio it uses without a meeting tip is 5:1. You have to call in your order, no online ordering, but the best I've seen. Great quality product. Anyone have suggestions on reducing the odor? Plenty of naysayers and self-righteous shamers on here... I'd rather spend my time looking into how something valuable could work better, than focusing on the challenges. Sure, it's gross in concept, but aren't nearly all natural processes?Composting is appalling to some, but when done right doesn't even have a smell. I work for a company that is in the Fortune 100 best places to work and we have compost bins on every floor.... it's not just for the farm. There were naysayers there too, but they stuck around and are getting used a lot. It's about doing what's better, not saving a nickel. Many times what's better is harder work, which is why even I like the idea of spending a little on a bag of inorganic fertilizer I can drop in a spreader and be done in five to ten minutes, but I know it's not better for soil health....See Moreurine as fertilizer
Comments (9)Destany I think I would prefer to pee in a bottle inside the house just in case you have one of those peeping tom neighbors always looking into your yard and specially if you live in a neighborhood with 2 story houses. You dont want Jane or Joe wondering if your toilet is plugged lol. but yes urine does contain alot of nitrogen but it contains alot of Amonia too. its safe for trees or big bushes so it might be ok for a big rose bush with well established roots. Its not good for grass or small plants so I wouldnt recommend it for lets say a strawberry garden if you have one. The benefit over urine vs chemical nitrogen fertilizer would be that urine just doesnt cause long term damage to the soil unless you take prescription drugs or something and the chemical fertilizer leaves salts in your soil that cause long term damage. So for trees I let my dogs pee on every tree they see ;) but I also give them some treats they sell at the pet store that keeps the grass green and the dog's pee doesnt affect the lawn....See Morejosko021
