Happy New Year back at ya! My New Year's resolution is to not be such a wimp. I need to just bite the bullet, ignore the cold and get my under-the-sink compost buckets out to the Earth Machine and dump them instead of piling them up on the deck.

This morning it is 1° F and -17° C! BUT - wasn't the Blue Moon beautiful last night!?

If I can't see it from looking out a window, I missed it! It's -33C/-28F with a -45C/-49F windchill, I am NOT going outside unless I have to! (Kinda neat that F temperatures look worse than C once it's below -40.) Although I guess one would have to concede that the mosquitos won't be too bad.

It's a balmy 28.6F/-1.9C here with snowfall expected for the next 3 or 4 days.

That's the ocean off Cundy's Harbor, Maine, a hundred miles from here. I was sitting on an island with Hayseedman when I took that picture. He's my most enthused kayaking/camping buddy.

There was a Bald Eagle not 20 feet over my head when I took that picture. Hay got some great closeups of it. I was busy photographing my socks, which I secretly think belong to DMB, who denies them, I think out of shame.

I wanna see the picture too! I love socks!!

Happy new year to all. Its about 5 above here in Madison, Wi, but we do have some sun to ease the chill. We had 17 inches of snow, but then we saw several days of freezing rain, so now we are left with maybe six inches of crusty compacted snow, not much use for skiing. Cabin fever is starting to set in...

happy new year to ya'll to---- 45F here but feels like 34F---we're so wimpy we gotta have a feels like temp to let us know how cold we're sposed to feel----nice and sunny though and got in a nice walk this morning--

wonder if you can compost spent fireworks casings---it sounded like a small war going on last night in the neighborhood====

look forward to reading about the adventures of Val---Lloyd--- Annpat and all the other regulars that make this the most active and enjoyable forum on the web---

Okay, Val, but don't make fun of the socks, because they're not mine. They got left here once by a nameless Garden Webber (DMB), who's evidently too embarrassed, because of their condition, to claim them.

And I was remiss in that I did not offer my thanks to those of us that have to work on the holidays. The nurses, police, firefighters, air traffic services, military, doctors and all the support staff for these and other essential services. While some will contend that this is just doing your job, I prefer to acknowledge your/our dedication and sacrifice.

Val, I must agree about the moon. I couldn't resist and took the dog for quite the walk along a dead end road with no street lights. Fortunately, not all of Canada has the temps Lloyd has. UGH!! We were at a beautiful -1C without a wind for once.

Happy new year everyone. We started the new year with 3/4" of rain and it is currently 58F and overcast (and still light). Ann you should have a fishing pole straddled between those toes. Lloyd I agree with your sentiments about thoses who work and sacrafice familytime for all of us. I have never been in temperatures below 10F - I just can't imagine.........
