Drive a stake...pull them back into vertical growing position. Secure them with stretch tape purchased at your local nursery.. Start at the bottom and wrap the plant to prevent any hangers that want to lean out. Leave for the season and adjust the restraints as necessary. In the event there is a repeat of these heavy snow loads next winter venture out and give them a shake to dislodge the snow. If they survive any further damage and get to large to maintain it's time to replace. Sooner more apt then later the big one will hit and destroy them. Dave

Mike, unless you want to collect seeds, cut the suckers to a few inches above the base. My flowers profusely and historically when I have kept the stalks w/spent flowers, they were never as attractive or healthy. Unlike other gingers where you need to cut the spent bloom stalk, this one will continue to survive, but I have found the stand fills out quicker and produces more new stalks faster if those are removed. Wanna trade heliconia and some others. Let me know.

I know this is a bit late but for what it's worth, the stems are brittle and some animals like to eat them so I often end up with broken off bits. They root readily in shaded damp soil for me.
