Teasing Georgia

I am a sucker for s yellow rose these days. Teasing Georgia looks amazing but I need to know about BS and fragrance. Is there another you prefer?

I detect a very faint fragrance. It does get BS in my yard. It's also a JB magnet.

But I love it.

Mine has a great fragrance but it does get BS. I don't spray though, if I did it might be different.

Can you explain what you mean by letting them grow "naturally"? I assume you want to train your TGs to be climbers, so you will have to be vigilant about training them and attaching the canes to the trellis as they grow. Your trellises should work for that. This rose can be trained to be a climber (with training) or a shrub (with pruning) -- either way it needs some attention from the gardener.

I have two teasing Georgia’s - one on either side of my long driveway. of course I planted them too close and they will probably start to spill over onto it in a couple of weeks. Is Teasing Georgia a good candidate for pegging? The canes seem pliable enough for me to fold them in and away from the driveway but I don’t know if there are any unintended consequences

I would just point out that neem oil has excellent fungicidal properties and is frequently recommended for good, organic rose care. It is suggested for use by the American Rose Society to control diseases like powdery mildew, black spot and can even have an impact on reducing the incidence of rust. One just needs to realize that it is only a preventative fungicide, not a curative, so of most benefit before the plant becomes highly infected. But it will limit the spread of any fungal disease to unaffected foliage. Just avoid spraying during the heat of the day - early morning or late evening. My current garden in the woods is too shady to grow many roses but when I did, I swore by Rose Defense by Green Light, which is clarified hydrophobic extract of neem oil. It did a great job of limiting any fungal issues as well as for common insect control. btw, it also works on insects other than just soft bodied ones by disrupting life cycle functions like eating, molting, mating and egg laying. It also acts as a repellent and has been effective against Japanese beetles. And it is 100% organic and OMRI approved. It was the only pesticide I used on my roses!!

the canes seem to be very nice and thick so possibly a grafted rose that has been potted. I am honestly not very experienced. I think your plant will do fantastic. Any small fence or cage will help with the bunnies. I have many in my yard and once the roses get tall enough it is actually funny seeing the rabbits eating some of the lower blooms like if they were cupcakes. I remember seeing one eating some of Roald Dahl blooms and it looked like he/she were eating a peach. At that point their damage is minimal. On the other hand if you have clematises do place a cage over them permanently because otherwise the rabbits will come and cut their stems at ground level.

I forgot to mention how stout the canes are. Mine are both bare root J&P purchased at the beginning of last summer and jeez did these things grow. 5 ft canes on both of them, stout things, didn't lose a leaf over our so called winter either. And I love the flowers, beautiful form and a creamy yellow.

Great for me in Washington State. No BS, only medium fragrance to my nose.

I have two "Teasing Georgias" that I planted 5 years ago..one on each side of my arbor and over onto my new Pergola...she is magnificient and blooms off and on all season with two really heavy flushes...one in Spring and Fall..slightly scented and beautifully cupped...Here is a pic of her blooms...Jeanne

I think it's my favorite yellow. It does get big but has a nice shape. Disease resistance is better than the average Austin for me. It has a mild tea fragrance. The color is the special thing...it's a soft yellow but not washed out...it's easy on the eyes and blends well with other colors. My plant put out a lot of basals last year which I coaxed sideways. It should have a great flush this spring. It does rebloom. THe leaves are on the small side and there's lots of them.

Michelle, you ain't kidding. I just cut back my TG, which I have on an umbrella trellis. One cane was 18 ft long with a 12 foot lateral coming out of it. I was able to cut it at the base, then stand on my 10ft ladder and pull it out of the top. I kept it intact to show DH.

Erasmus, you'll have to post pictures when your TG blooms. If I had to do it over again, I'd plant her against a fence and train her canes laterally.
