What was the worst troll thread for 2009?? (just wondering)

OK, I'm not trying to open up a can of worms or anything, but I was just wondering, in your opinion, what was the worst troll thread of 2009??

Haven't you heard of google, even ignorant people can use it.

That is an example of a troll post...please take no offense, only using as an example.

That actually happened not to far from us several years ago. We live out in a rural area and down the road from us, a middle aged woman lived alone. She worked and also kept up her 20 acre farm. She had chickens, horses, goats and a few house dogs. She was on vacation and was out riding in the back of her acreage and apparently was thrown and died. She wasn't found until 4 days later when her mother came down to pick her up. They were going to spend the last two days of her vacation together shopping and stuff. Her mother had tried to call her, but said it was pretty normal not to reach her because she was always outside doing stuff. All the animals survived as they were able to find enough forage to sustain themselves and the dogs tipped the dog food bag over. They were pretty thirsty though as they had finally run out of water. So it can happen. I have been known to head on over to a relatives or friends house when I couldn't reach them for a day and never got a call back. Most of the time they are ok, just busy with farm chores and stuff and forgot to call me back. But you never know when an accident can happen. A long time ago, I had a friend that died when she went out to feed the horses. They think she fell out of the loft, and her 10 year old daughter found her laying in the barn isle when she got home from school that afternoon. Her husband had already left for work and all the kids had gone to school that morning, and she was home alone doing chores. So a person really needs to have a security system in place so that if the plan is not followed, someone will check up on them. My sister lives a few miles from me and I call her every morning and she calls me every evening. We chit chat but it's mainly to make sure we are alright. We are both stepping up the ladder of aging (I'm on the 56th rung and she is on the 63rd rung) and we know that things happen. She has a small farm as do I and we have animals to care for. If we don't answer the phone, we keep trying every 15 minutes for an hour then we head on over to the house to make sure things are ok. If we aren't going to be home, of course we let each other know that.

Mad Gallica, The right plant in the right place should be the mantra of every gardener. I agree. But roses or plants under stress do not perform as well as those that are not. It is a journey, for sure. I don't grow HTs and I try to grow the toughest roses possible in an area where BS is a given and now it seems so is rose midge. Harry Shoe to the east of me and Lorene and Dian to the west of me have heavy infestations. Lorene said every where she travels in the Pittsburgh area where there are roses, she finds rose midge. The old biddies, the once bloomers, look better and better to my eye, but I think it is only a matter of time when they too start to fail because of rose midge. If you could see Felicite Parmentier, or GMB, or QdD in my garden you might wonder if they were mislabled. They are not as big as in years past because of the necessary pruning for RM. Their leaves are sadly missing because of disease. Even Leda who normally towers over the fence line has barely reached it this year. Gallicas are struggling as well, though better in the BS department, have not obtained that out of control growth as in years past. Therese Bugnet is getting sped because she cannot perform and has not rebloomed since spring. Half her growth then was MIDGED. Rose rubifolia's canes are only skimpily foliated half of her 4 feet and the tips are all infested. I could go on ad nauseum. It is a journey for sure, and sure I've made some bad choices in the roses I selected and they will not last. But bad roses for my garden might not be bad roses for someone else's garden. And organic gardening is not, as I have said a Silver Bullet, but it is the choice I have made for mostly personal reasons. And organic choices are NOT always good. If you look at the widespread use of Roternone in organic gardens and check its effect on the environment (an EIQ of 100)you might choose the non-organic fruits and vegetables sprayed with synthics that have an EIQ rating of 30. I would like to believe that there will be happy roses for my garden that will make it shine. I'm just saying FOR ME, they will not be roses that are sprayed with pesticides or fungicides. If I cannot find such roses, I'm willing to move on to some other plant. That's all. Barbara

The Israelis and Arabs finally realized that, if they continued fighting, they would someday end up destroying the world. So they sat down and decided to settle the whole dispute with a dogfight. The negotiators agreed that each country would take five years to develop the best fighting dog they could. The dog that won the fight would earn its country the right to rule the middle east. The losing side would have to lay down its arms. The Arabs found the biggest, meanest Dobermans and Rottweilers in the world. They bred them together and then crossed their offspring with the meanest Siberian wolves. They selected only the biggest, strongest puppy from each litter and continued to breed them together. They used steroids and trainers in their quest for the perfect killing machine. After the five years were up, they had a dog that needed iron prison bars on its cage. Only the trainers could handle this beast. When the day of the big fight arrived, the Israelis showed up with a strange animal. It was a nine-foot-long Dachshund. Everyone felt sorry for the Israelis. No one else thought this weird animal stood a chance against the growling beast in the Arab camp. The bookies predicted the Arabs woul win in less than a minute. The cages were opened. The Dachshund waddled toward the center of the ring. The Arab dog leapt from his cage and charged the giant wiener-dog. As he got to within an inch of the Israeli dog, the Dachshund opened its jaws and swallowed the Arab beast in one bite. There was nothing left but a small of fur from the killer dog's tail. The Arabs approached the Israelis, shaking their heads in disbelief. "We do not understand. Our top scientists and breeders worked for five years with the meanest, biggest Dobermans and Rottweilers. They developed a killing machine." "Really?" the Israelis replied. "We had our top plastic surgeons working for five years to make an alligator look like a Dachshund!"

More desserts here, the Monkey Princess and Bruvver came over yesterday and we just had to make some elephant ears. The Princess didn't get quite enough of them at this year's fairs and festivals, LOL. So, she and Bruvver started stirring some up... We fried them in hot oil and sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar: The Princess approved: We also had a birthday party today, for my sister's Terrible Twins. They turned seven so I decided to make some cake pops, I'd seen them all over the internet. They both like "Hello Kitty" so off I go. I bake a cake. From scratch, the Hershey's Cocoa recipe. I crumble it up and mix up a cream cheese based buttercream frosting, mix it all together. Make balls, add sticks and freeze. But what for ears? White/vanilla chips, stuck to the tops of the cake balls, as per "Bakerella", then a dip into melted candy coating. Some piped on decorations and we have it: What a PIA. Plus, the coating drips down and it's not smooth, and my piece of styrofoam I had holding the pops fell over and smashed several. I gave up on "hello Kitty" and just dipped the rest, sprinkled them and added some flowers: Oh yeah, and just to add to the equation, I have to tell you that I tasted one of them today. It was possibly one of the worst things I have ever put into my mouth, so sweet it would make your teeth ache and soft and mushy, kind of like the center of brownies when they aren't quite cooked enough. This goes a bit further back, though something that comes to mind was when a woman had mentioned about having put a toad in the deep freeze and then thawing it to see if it would come back to life ... an act done out of pure innocence and curiosity, though something that was best to go unmentioned here ... for some had launched such an attack upon her that you'd think she had committed a heinous crime worthy of the death sentence, it was definitely overboard ... the poor gal said she had been reduced to tears and would leave the forum.

I can't say that I've noticed troll threads on this forum or the other GW forums I participate in--New England, Cottage, and a few others. Maybe it's a problem somewhere else and I'm glad I haven't discovered them.

I'm assuming a trail of troll posts would create a troll thread, lol.

I haven't noticed any either.

A "troll" is someone who visits (or should I say crashes) Internet forums or chatrooms and posts off-topic or inflammatory threads or responses to threads just to stir things up and get folks bickering or arguing.

I can't say that I've noticed any recently as well. The GW powers that be tend to curb these individuals pretty rapidly but now and again the same troll will reappear in various disguises and cause a ruckus by a single post only to vanish into cyberspace until the next visit.

It's usually pretty quiet around here - I can't even think of a troll post that I've seen on this forum. Some heated discussions, yes (but nothing compared to the Rose forums - yikes it can get intense over there at times...) :0)

Not sure about this forum, but the Topiary forum seems to attract that Culinary Cooking school or whatever person every so often. Or is that considered spam? Probably more spam than troll. Trolling is more like what whaas posted as an example.

I think the soil forum gets it's share of trolls. It's really an easy target I think because those guys get real emotional about their dirt and compost. Not a place for wimps or the weak of heart! That's not a criticism, I like that forum and have followed it for years.

There's a troll thread there now, something about frozen soil. Apparently some of his past threads have been pulled but searching the forums reveals a lot of similar posts over a long period of time.

A troll is a person with no life and too much time I think.

Wow; if there were any, why would we want to remember them? This seems to be a fairly civil place.

Another non-gardening forum I use was plagued with this one guy who jumped into every discussion with something that was designed to rile everyone up. He was finally banned for good.

It was like Venus tossing the apples, in the old myth. Everyone would lose track of what they were talkng about and go after those apples.

The sound you hear is joyful laughing, linnea and hostaholic-too cute and probably why we don't have trolls here or on hosta or cottage forums-everyone is too nice to be mean!
