Placed my Last Order

Finished until the local nurseries open. I will pick up sales then. I have a new home so I am in the process of landscaping large areas.

These were great buys from various online vendors that are running early order sales. I think I did very good for 100.00 for all below.

Do you set a budget? I have to because money is tight.

I have all being delivered last week of March. So I have just 2 months to wait. I will start to look at my pics from last year and plan where they will go. This is what I have.

15 various Oriental, LA, Trumpet, Orienpet Bulbs.....

American dentinel, Pink Perfection, Marquee. Regale, Casa Blanca.

Now I have to start planning. I am doing it two ways. I have printed out pics of all the plants, and I have a visual garden planning program.

How do you visualize your gardens when adding new plants?

I am not usually this organized I usually order when they come run out and squeeze them in where ever I can find a spot. But since I do not have any real parent or job responsibilities I have more time,

"How do you visualize your gardens when adding new plants?"

I have maps of every garden bed with every plant (except those that self-sow around) marked. It's very easy to keep updated as I add new plants. In any case, when I order new plants this time of year, I know in advance where they will go.

I'm broke and out of space but I will be making room for the following: 1. BOULE DE NEIGE -- I've been lusting after this pure snowy white Bourbon for years and now is my last chance. His sister Coquette des Blanches is an excellent rose so I have high hopes for this beauty. 2. CASINO -- among my dwindling list of favorite vendors (Antique Rose Emporium, Chamblees & Heirloom) Vintage is the only one who is offering this fragrant Large Flowered yellow climber. He is replacing one of my Pilgrim's that got choked out by Belladonna last year. 3. ORFEO -- only Vintage and Rogue Valley Roses carry this dark red Large Flowered Climber that does particularly well in the Mid-Atlantic region. 4. SPARTAN -- nobody has this reddish orange VID Floribunda but Vintage. I figured I'd better snatch him up before it is too late. All these roses have strong fragrances. Others that I missed out on are Apricot Nectar VID, Lullaby, Osiria, Rosemary Rose, and Yolande d'Aragon. All these are hard to find but I'm particularly distraught over Osiria. I got Deja Blu in January and repotted it in a 3 gallon pot. It has since grown 2 feet and the leaves are big as the floribunda/HT ones. The flower is 3 inches, no disease so far [I spray]. Lana

Placed a Palatine order to Replace my Pickering Order

Last spring I found a rose I really want, Schoen Ingeborg, on Palatine's website--naturally after they were sold out. I fully intended to place an order for it this fall, only to find that Palatine wasn't offering it. Rats! You are lucky they have some of your Pickering choices Tammy. They don't have any of mine. However, Antonia d'Ormois looks absolutely stunning. I'd like to know how she does for you. It may be possible to find some on my Pickering order elsewhere like Nevada and Golden Wings, but others will be difficult to find in stock at any other nursery. I may opt instead to go ahead and buy more lovely species from Forest Farm and wait to get my Pickering order from Pickering next year. I do want to make a point of giving them return business next year as I think they will be in special need of orders. Wish there was something I could do to help them now. Melissa

Suggestions on purples

I LOVE PURPLES!! Purples and pinks are my favorites in the daylily color palette. But just remember( Van Sellers taught me this many years ago)dark colors tend to recede into the landscape!! If you only plant purples without some light or brighter colors to balance them, then they might not show up as well as you think. You can do this with other lighter colored companion plants or other lighter colored daylilies. I tend to plant the purples near yellows, pinks and whites so that they will pop. Here are a few favorite purples: VIOLET BECOMES YOU: PURPLE PEOPLE EATER: VELVET RIBBONS is a black purple. NIGHT WINGS is also dark - almost a black. BLACK FALCON RITUAL: I love the color of PURPLE MANY FACES. ROYAL CORSAGE is a double that is in shades of royal purple. AFRICAN GRAPE is a good older Munson in purple: ARNETTE ZAPEL is a newer one by the Rices. This is my favorite shade of purple! MOONLIGHT SAIL: Steve Moldovan's VATICAN PURPLE is another great purple with rich color. There are more, but these are the first ones I thought of!

rouge21 Thank you for the link. I was not expecting big things so whatever I get I will be satisfied. The first one I got did not survive the winter. This is being sent as a replacement for the one that died so this one is free.

When I say visualize. I have pics of my gardens for each season. I look at those pics and think about what they might need or if there is a void in certain spots that I can add something to give it a boost. I have 4 acres so I have a lot of space. I have put in the bushes for structure now I am adding some flowers and foliage plants.

mxk3...LOL I have had to put myself on a budget now that I am on a fixed income. That disposable income I had when I was working is not there now.

diggerdee, You have to get going. Come on order something. I do not want to be the only crazy winter bird one. I do not think I will ever say it is my last order unless I am 6' under. I will probably ordering plants on my death bed.

I do not like ordering too many plants online. If I can get them locally that is my first choice. The bulb selection online is always the best.

Bumping this up so see if anyone has anymore suggestions for dark leaf color Geraniums. With all the discussion of Havana Blue I am thinking I want to order some more geraniums.

Although not a dark leaf geranium, it seems everyone loves Jolly Bee are there any others that are favorites. I do not mind sprawling.

Thank you so much for the suggestions you all have made. I do appreciate your help. It is so helpful getting growers recommendations than what the vendors say you will get.
