Comments (13)Could it be that like some other DA roses, the later growth will be more upright and you can trim it into a big bush once it is 3 or more years old. Lots of my DAs were floppy at first and later grew stiff canes. Won't help now of course, but staking the canes up might be an option until you see if the rose behaves differently once the roots are grown in. Mine were just like that when they were in the first few years and now look like big bushes. I would wait and see what it does. If you are clever, you can put in some support like bamboo or a painted green wooden cage that will hide in the foliage. Or go for a fancy support and make a statement. I have 3 DAs that I trained on trellises and this winter when I prune, I'm going to remove the trellises. They don't seem to need them anymore to stay upright....See MoreDoes your master bath door swing in or out?
Comments (9)My master (HAH...tiny, tiny) bathroom door currently opens in. Although it does not block access to anything as it opens against a wall, I am planning to change it so that it will open into the bedroom instead. My reasoning is that I am attempting to make the bathroom less claustrophobic and am going to install a window on the wall that the door would block when open. I have built a ceiling to floor, wall length closet in the bedroom and the door will open into the end space of that closet so that it will look more like a hallway into the bathroom, not just a door opening into the bedroom space. Make sense? I gave up coffee recently....just not fair. I love the look of the interior barn doors, however in my case it would take up most of the only wall I have in the bathroom...although I suppose one could put towel bars on it...I may have to rethink this......See MoreSage (I think?) splaying
Comments (13)take a close look. the center IS GROWING ... why do you insist its not ... after clipping.. as it starts to return to height.. just put a string around it all .. so that the whole mass can support itself .. this used to happen with a lot of plants when i fert'd .. when i moved to sand.. and stopped ferting everything.. they grew more to specs and expectations ... all that said.. why cant you just love this plant for what it is.. instead of foisting your expectations on it ... what kind of mother are you???? all that said ... this plant sorta borders on being weedlike ... rather than show specimen plant.. if you get what i mean ... its just not going to be a standup and show us what you got type plant ... let it be the weed it is .. lol ... [and never fert a weed] since you contemplate getting rid of it.. just experiment on it .. cut one side to 2 or 3 inches.. yes.. that far back ... and the other at say.. 6 inches, or just below the flowers ... then watch what happens ... btw.. cutting it to 2 inches is known as.. showing it who is boss .. lol .. ken...See MoreEcheveria middle leaves drying out??? Comments (4)One of the reasons I use gravel topdressing is to make sure leaves do not touch wet soil (...but I do not use soil anyway). If your soil stayed wet enough for leaves to start rotting, it is too water retaining, and it may be better to consider different potting mix. It is a good idea to take photots - if no problem, they can be easily deleted. But they help to figure out a problem if there is one. Plants just purchased should be repotted - they are, most of the times, in pure peat. Peat is easy to overwater, and if kept too dry, it becomes hydrophobic. Neither is good for plants. If you just take existing plant out of pot, leave the peat and just fill the rest with your own mix - it most often doesn't work. It doesn't mix with new potting mix. If you find it too dry around roots and difficult to remove, try using skewer and tease it off. If it still doesn't work, you can swish rootball in a bowl of water and rinse it off. If peat is very dry and caked on, water should be warm - it helps to soften up peat....See MoreUser
