About me: I have been growing things since I was 3 or 4. Plants are my passion - and for me gardening is a venue to get to know them. I now have a large rocky yard on a hill and am digging the rocks out and creating tiered beds. I grow perennials, annuals, geophytes, herbs and tomatos. To satisfy my gardening obsession year round I grow from seed starting in late winter, plant and build new beds in the spring, weed, deadhead and water in the summer, plant bulbs in the fall and grow amarylis, orchids and house plants to get me through our early winter. I read alot about gardening: magazines, how to books and plant encycloypedias. My favorite though are gardening books by writers who write about the experience of gardening. I recommend Elenor Pyrini, Jamaica Kincaid, Margery Fish, Henry Mitchell, and my latest favorite Beverly Nichols. I should also mention Dean Riddle and my hope that he continues writing and publishing.
