Harsh Winter in SC = dead roses?

I just came in from my first major foray into my roses. I got involved in a major wretling match with an over grown Cramoisi Supérieur and after than I decided to start some pruning. I noticed in the process that some of my roses aren't looking so hot.....even some of the established ones. Carding Mill looks to me like a goner. Another one that appears dead is Incense Indigo.

I then started to notice that some of the roses that I have in pots have died this winter. One was a rose bred in Scotland whose name escapes me at the moment. I would think that one would of been pretty hardy but who knows.

I even lost some of the rose babies I had gotten from Ashdown last fall. I was careful with those, making sure they were watered and bringing them in for the cold snaps but I'm thinking that this winter was just too much for them.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Carole
