In my garden setting, Bubble Bath forms a wide, sprawling shrub, wants to grow wider than tall. It is healthy and vigorous, less blackspot than other roses.

I really like Lavender Lassie. It's vigorous as well, more upright in its habit than Bubble Bath. Lavender Lassie has a wonderful fragrance.

I grow Mme Isaac Pereire, which is similar to Mme Ernst Calvat. It's a superb rose, exceptional fragrance. It can get some blackspot late in the season. (I've been so pleased with MIP, that I'm adding Mme Ernst Calvat to the garden this spring.)

These three roses might grow quite large in your zone, will be interesting to hear what folks say about them.

Lavender Lassie has no BS resistance for me.

Clair Matin is a great rose with tremendous production of sprays that are pleasantly fragrant and good for cutting. Not unduly vigorous.

Consider Aloha if you could use a medium pink. Hardy and resistant with high-quality flowers (except when they go veggie).

Climbing Souvenir de la Malmaison is considerably less hardy than New Dawn here. It might never cover your arch like in the pictures. It depends upon how it tolerates your winters. Your arch was really good, I like the ever so slightly over-grown lush look.

In my climate Climbing Mme Caroline Testout and Climbing Ophelia do better for some reason. They don't get as damaged by the swinging temperatures of rain and bare-frost we have here; and they repeat well. CSdM often just get a single flower now and then after first flush.

With less vigor then New Dawn, but very fine climbers still I like to mention Swan Lake (Schwanensee, very dark shiny leafs), Ilse Krohn Superior, and Coral Dawn (dusky pink type). I would like to mention Penny Lane too, but in colder climates it might just turn out a medium bush.

I live in a very different climate than you, but I still think these are worth checking out :-)

I have "Aloha" on order this year (will be my first climber ever), but didn't realize until after I ordered it that some sources describe it as "slow to establish"--not quite sure what that means, especially for Zone 5 where we have a shorter growing season and more winter kill. But something to keep in mind as you're deciding--maybe that's what you're looking for, since New Dawn was too rowdy for you. As for me, I hope I'm not a little old lady before the plant even reaches halfway up the trellis...

It took Aloha at least six years to become a really big bush in my neighbours garden. It grows up the house-wall at least 7 feet and is cut twice a year, in spring and after furst flush. It never really was trained as a climber but sort of grows rather bushy. She only cuts the top canes (about one or two feet) and any cane that stick out too much.It is a dense plant, lots of canes in all directionst but covered with green and lushes leafs, and very rich blooming. The second flush is very impressive too; the whole plant is impressive when in bloom and really don't get much care, no spraying or not even fertilizer every year.

If you can find the climber Armada, it might do the job for you. Mine reblooms well and does very well without spray. It's a deeper pink verging on coral and the hips are good looking through til January if you need them for winter color.

Aloha is a slow grower.

It gets some black spot (don't know how much it would for you), but if you're open to once-bloomers you might consider Tausendschoen. It's a shortish rambler with thornless canes and very small prickles on the undersides of the leaves. It doesn't look at all like New Dawn, but it's lovely in its own way. It bears a resemblance to the hybrid musks and I suspect R. multiflora is in its heritage. The flowers open about the color of pink cotton candy and then fade to near white as they age. In good sun, if it's happy, it covers itself when it's in bloom!

Well, there's just really no substitute for New Dawn, but a rose that blooms repeatedly is Clair Matin although its beauty never quite equals that of New Dawn.

Check out White Cap. A lousy name for a rose that is supremely wonderful for me.
