Wow Sammy, you got some snow!! We just got a thin powder layer yesterday AM that was gone by noon. But the cold winds blew, so I likely have more damage than you.The bright side is all the moisure you got out of the deal.

It is supposed to get up to the late 60s today here. I dread inspection of what the leaves and buds are going to look like, freeze burnt.

It's very true here, if you don't like the weather today, stick around, you might tomorrow...

Oh, I am sorry that you also have a problem with the weather. All of my roses have buds, but I have no once bloomers, so they can grow more buds. What I dread is that cane that slowly begins to turn purple, or the circle of black low on the cane. Maybe that is called canker, I don't know, but it is bad news.

Darn, Sammy, that's a lot of snow for this part of the country at the end of March. You've got it much worse than I do. The average low temperature for my area is 49F this time of year. So, this was quite a dip. But, you dipped several degrees lower than we did. Hang in there!

THanks, Randy. It is looking good this afternoon, but I will not be gardening today. At least I could take my new roses outside early. I don't think inside is good for them, but it sure beat what was outside.

Greta, we belong to a dog training school, and they have competitions. Our club is affilitated with the AKC, American Kennel Club, and they have competitions a couple of times a year. It's fun, and it is fun to see the dogs together. However, you have to pay to be part of the competition, and you count on being able to comfortably take your dog outside. This is not the time of year that one would expect such a gooey mess.

A quick assessment revealed minimal freeze damage. Just some of the newest leaves are freeze-dried, in hit and miss fashion. But the oncoming days will tell the tale.

Hope everyone who was in the path of this little blizzard got by with as little or less damage.

Yuck. We had a couple of inches, but it's melted by now and was mostly this morning. I was fully in spring mode. Bah humbug. I don't think we got any blossom damage round about, and nothing in my yard was blooming besides the daffodils, which had already been frozen and rained on a couple of times so were drooping anyway.

I hope your damage is as little as it currently appears.

I was able to get out in the nice 89 degree weather to thoroughly check the freeze damage. Not too bad, just a lot of limp or crunchy foliage, it was so nice before.

Anybody else get any damage?

We got some serious hail on Sunday afternoon. March thunderstorms and hail are quite rare here. We are lucky that we have had few warm days and nothing has leafed out yet.

Predicting March weather is pretty much a waste of time in most parts of the country.

I'm glad your damage was minimal.

Oooh, I hate seeing crunchy or limp foliage, especially after that Easter freeze of 06, my Japanese maples are still trying to recover, and I lost so many roses to canker, I'm still digging them out after they limped along. Hopefully this was a short enough bout to just damage some early growth and that it was just a blip on the weather radar.

I think I'm getting numb to weird weather. I used to worry about it a lot more when we lived in Indiana, tornado alley. I had my weather radio at the ready and the basement was stocked with supplies. Saturday night apparently we had tornado warnings, the sky turned yellow and then we had some severe thunderstorms that struck very close by. The dog went under the bed while I was watching a movie on DVD. My daughter was at the mall with some friends and told me the next day that they herded everyone into the tornado shelters. She just wanted to stay in the food court, not worried even after she saw the weird sky. Like mother like daughter?

well, at least there's not a drought this year (trying hard to be encouraging). Hope there's no lasting damage, Sammy.

I bet Marie will do just fine. All the roses I have in the ground were like "What...? We didn't notice anything!"
I did herd up all the new babies and blanket them in both a sheet and a couple plastic trash bags. They did just FINE! ONE even put on NEW growth!! :)

linrose, me too. My JMs would be twice as big now if it wasn't for the 06 Easter Freeze. But at least they survived. I'm still SPing roses that were damaged by that freeze.

Those of you that have freeze damage, wait a few days and then take those canes down until you see white pith. It takes awhile for the cells in the plant to die. You may have to do a 2nd pruning and start all over. Sorry. Snow might not be that bad, at least it insulates the plants.
