Another mold thread. I'm getting desperate!

17 years ago

Hi,

I posted this question at the end of another "mold" thread but have not had any follow-ups. Please forgive the starting of a new "mold" thread but as the title says, IÂm getting desperate".

This is my first year experiencing a rampant mold problem. I would not wish this on anyone!

My first problem was that I started (and saved) too many seedlings. More than I can use and now itÂs painfully obvious, more than I can control. Mold started in a few Styrofoam cups and spread like crazy. Had a fan on 10 minutes every hour to circulate air but it did not help.

HereÂs what IÂm doing.

Fan is on 24 hours a day;

Mixing up the top layer of soil to ensure oxygen gets to roots;

Cut back on watering till the seedlings are looking parched;

Planning on spraying every 3rd day with 1 part peroxide / 9 parts water (just started).

So hereÂs my questions.

Is the fan now just spreading the mold to non infected seedlings?

Is mixing the top soil layer just getting the mold deeper?

IÂve read that one part peroxide / nine parts water helps fight the problem, can anyone confirm this remedy?

If the peroxide mixture works, can I use it daily?

Would a commercial fungicide (like No-Damp) work better than peroxide?

Thanks in advance for any input. IÂm in zone 5a so starting over would mean that IÂve lost this season for hot peppers. Started my babies in Jan/Feb and wonÂt have enough time to get a jump on the short season for my Habaneros and Serranos.

Bill
